ANNUAL REPORT • FY 2015

LETTERS FROM LEADERSHIP
Dear Friends of the Tabernacle,
I want to personally thank you for your continued support of the Ocean City Tabernacle during the change in leadership.
I was extremely honored to assume the position as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees in June. Under the
direction of the Board, the Tabernacle has made some incredible accomplishments during 2015 and will continue
to grow by walking with the Lord and His plan for all this organization can become. Without your support many of
the programs listed in this booklet are not possible.
To my predecessor, Todd Chamberlain, I extend my sincere thanks for his devout commitment to the Tabernacle
over the last six years. During his time as Chairperson, he directed the Board through the ownership of the Moorlyn
and the development of the Son Club afterschool program. Todd and his predecessors set a very high standard for
my role and emulated the principles that the Tabernacle was founded upon. By God’s grace and the support from
the Board of Trustees and others, the Tabernacle has been able to continue its positive impact on the community.
The Tabernacle will strive to be a beacon of family centered Christian witness, will continue a strong biblical presence
in Ocean City, and will seek to find new avenues to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
I am excited to see what has been planned for 2016. With your financial support and God’s
guiding hand, the Tabernacle will continue on the path of Christian ministry. I look forward to
joining with you for our 137th season.
May God bless you and all that surround you,
Virginia Weber
Chairperson, Board of Trustees
Dear Friends,
2015 has been quite an amazing year due in no small part to your generous and faithful support of the Tabernacle.
Thank you for all the ways you empowered us to forge ahead in Christian ministry and service to the Ocean City
community.
Following the leadership of board chair Todd Chamberlain and Virginia Weber, we truly lived out our mission to be
a resource for Christian families living in and visiting Ocean City. Here are a few of the year’s highlights.
Our summer services were filled with inspirational speakers like Jonathan Evans, Chaplain for the Dallas Cowboys,
and retired Lieutenant General William “Jerry” Boykin. Sunday night concerts featured renowned musicians like
Sandi Patti, Veritas and The Annie Moses Band. We continued to host some of Ocean City’s favorite events like the
weekly Farmer’s Market, the Miss Ocean City parade and the Street Rods Car Show. In the fall, our Bethany Hamilton
Fundraiser resulted in 33 student sponsorships for our after school program, Son Club. In December, we
served as the distribution point for the Christmas Waves of Caring Toy Drive as well as the Ecumenical Food Drive.
It brings me great joy to see what has been accomplished in 2015 and I look forward to all the
Lord has in store for 2016.
Blessings,
Paula S. Bender

2015 PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
ARK PRE-SCHOOL
The Ark Pre-School teachers strive to utilize hands on learning experiences and peer to peer
social interactions to support learning and promote student growth. Our goal is to develop
Godly character in the children through prayer, Bible stories and songs. Children are able to put
their knowledge to practice by demonstrating kindness, and concern for others in their everyday
interactions.
This year we worked towards implementing developmentally appropriate practices. The Preschool
made a concentrated effort to expand instructional materials and create learning centers
that provide children with stimulating new educational experiences.
Stefanie Penland, board member of the NJ Association for the Education of Young Children,
NJAEYC, conducted our first professional development training for our teachers. The National
Association for the Education of Young Children is a national organization that sets the standard
for quality early childhood education.
IT
The Technology Department reduced the cost of our managed email accounts by an incredible 97% despite the addition
of an office software package. The reduction was achieved by consolidating management of both accounts under one
company and applying non-profit status to our account.
IT upgraded our Wi-Fi system by making it more stable and increasing the network speeds. Guests no longer need to ask
for a Wi-Fi password. We also expanded our electronic check in system to include Sunday School as well as the nursery.
KULL YOUTH CENTER
The Kull Youth Center drew Christian groups travelling from
the north, as far as New Hampshire, and from the south, as far
as Georgia. A new package structure that included deals and
discounts with local businesses was implemented in 2015. By
November, every available night for the summer of 2016 was
booked. The KYC is in the process of reaching its full potential
for revenue and looking for new ways to expand ministry.
WAVES OF CARING
Waves of Caring is a program dedicated to providing
Christmas gifts to families with limited finances. Over
100 bags of toys were assembled and given to local
families out of the Kull Youth Center. The Ecumenical
Council also participated in this event by distributing
gift cards. We were pleased to be able to offer the KYC
for such a worthwhile community event.

The theme for our July Session was “Everest” and our August session was “Journey off the
Map.” The July session broke our attendance record with over 220 children. Our program is
expanding every year reaching more Son Club children as well as more families that have
no previous connection to the Tabernacle.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The Ocean City Tabernacle awards educational scholarships through
the Dana Kull Memorial Fund. Scholarships were awarded to deserving
students enrolled or employed in ministry. In 2015, we distributed
$16,000 to students attending six different colleges and universities
in New Jersey and beyond. These funds go directly to the schools
on behalf of recipients to assist with educational expenses for these
dedicated young men and women. The awards are listed below.
The Tabernacle gifts its grounds to the community for a variety of city-sponsored events
and programs throughout the year including the weekly Farmer’s Market, staging for
various parades, pony rides on Family Days, car shows, the Bassett-Hound festivities and
many more. doo-wop singers, Santos in July.
Ocean City School District – The Tabernacle serves as an asset to both the primary
school and high school because of our convenient location between the two
schools. Due to our high elevation, the Tabernacle offers our grounds to primary
school parents and staff for safe, dry parking in times of flooding. Our large facility is
able to accommodate the high school’s yearly AP testing. We are pleased to participate
in the high school’s life skills work study program for the third year in a row.
Police and Fire - We are pleased to provide the yearly training space for both our
local police and fire departments. This year, we initiated a new partnership with the
police department and enlisted their expertise in refining our safety procedures
for our children’s programs as well as Sunday services. Their input proved to be an
invaluable asset in strengthening and updating our policies.
We are so grateful that we can continue to be a support and resource to the Ocean City community by offering our facility
for these community building activities and events throughout the year.
