This fixture had been in doubt due to frost, but credit to match referee McFarlane, who in conjunction with the respective chairmen, sanctioned a second inspection in mid morning which yielded a positive outcome. The teams ran out today to the theme tune from the classic seventies police drama ‘The Sweeney’ but it was the rejuvenated Keith squad who came out flying. Four players who started in the League Cup defeat in Sutherland were replaced for the returning suspended triumvirate of Begg, Adams & McLean, with Ryan Robertson making a rare start. Keith settled the better and forced early corners & created the clearer chances. Michael Selfridge had forced a save out of ex Loco Daniel Bell before a Kieran Adams error allowed Donald Fraser to break & despatch a shot behind Mathieson. 0-1 22 minutes. Adams was having an uncomfortable afternoon & found himself in the book five minutes later after a heavy challenge that was rightly only deemed to be a caution rather than an expulsion from the field. The visitors should have probably been further ahead but errant finishing kept this one at 1-0 as the sides went in at half time. The second period began with more of the same, with Keith in the ascendency & this was confirmed with a goal on fifty minutes. It was due to another defensive blooper which left Craig Cormack with a simple conversion. 0-2. Stephen Jeffrey was showing his trademark gusto & was unlucky to see his header come back off the face of the bar. Scott Begg then saw yellow as did Donald Fraser. Locos introduced David Ross & Greg Mitchell after an hour, with Robertson & Begg departing. Keith then missed a couple of gilt-edged chances to finish proceedings but these let-offs energised the homesters & David Ross got them back into the contest with a smartly taken goal on sixty two minutes, his first for the club since a Scottish Cup brace at Kynoch Park in late September. Inverurie were committing too many needless fouls & next in the book was Mark Souter. Mathieson pulled off two top drawer stops to keep the deficit to a single goal but was helpless after more rearguard weakness saw Michael Ewen net to make it 3-1, seventy one minutes. Things got worse for the Harlaw Park faithful three minutes later as Mark Souter made another bookable foul leaving the referee with no option to brandish a red. Colin Charlesworth entered the fray with Martin Laing removed, Duncan came on for Cormack for the away side. Bruce Raffell was booked on eighty minutes. Locos were really struggling with Keith’s disciplined shape & game plan but set-up the proverbial grandstand finish against the odds when Michael Selfridge wriggled free to finish with

Keith are vastly improved from the side which suffered three defeats to the Locos earlier this season.
