Old elm
This North-American wood has been used for dozens of years in the
manufacture of (front) doors. The untreated wood of these doors is
recycled without adding a new finish. This preserves the original quality
of the timber.
Maintenance: Dry brush/damp cloth.
Old Fir
This 40- to 50-year old wood has been used as beams in houses and
barns in China. The wood is very durable. This reclaimed timber has a
‘lived’ appearance. Small hairline cracks and yellow spots can occur
from the resin.
Maintenance: Damp cloth.
Paulownia wood
From origin it has a natural blond colour. This fast growing wood grows
in China and is very stable. Therefore it can be perfectly being used in
tall cabinets.
Maintenance: Dry cloth.
Pellini
The natural leather is first tanned, and then a special coating is applied
to the lowest layer of leather. The coating strengthens and protects the
leather, and is then dyed the desired colour.
Maintenance: Pellini cleaner; do not damp clean.
Poplar wood
This North-American hardwood is ideal for making furniture. It is used
mainly in the manufacture of bases of tables and cupboard frames.
Maintenance: Damp cloth.
Rattan
Rattan, also known as slimit or rotan, is a 100% natural material. It
grows as lianas or climbing vines along colossal tree trunks in the
jungles of Borneo, Indonesia. During the monsoon season (from June
to October), the stems are harvested at 5 to 6 meters in length. The
rattan is first placed for a few weeks in mud baths until it turns into a
beautiful greyish-brown colour. Its stems are dried in the sun for a while
and then sorted by colour and thickness. The stems are then woven by
hand into the finished product. Suitable for interior use.
Maintenance: Dry brush.
Rattan slimit
A very fine and thin Rattan specie. (See Rattan)
Maintenance: Dry brush.
Reclaimed teak
This 60- to 100-year old wood is made of a mixture of reclaimed wood
from window frames, doors, ceilings and floors of old houses and barns
found on the island of Java, Indonesia. This wood type is extremely
durable and hardwearing, on the one hand because it contains natural
oils and on the other hand because of its extremely fine wood structure.
This wood type is brown in colour. Because this timber has been used
in other applications for dozens of years, the wood is extremely stable
and easy to incorporate in furniture, include in wider parts.
Maintenance: Damp cloth.
Rubber wood
As soon as latex production stops, the timber is processed. This type
of wood is extremely stable and therefore lends itself perfectly for the
manufacture of chair, armchair and sofa supports. This wood is light
brown in colour and has characteristic markings. This is accentuated by
the French Grey finish.
Maintenance: Dry cloth.
Washed cotton
After cotton fibres have been woven, they are washed. This process
gives the fabric a rugged, vintage look. A slight variation in colour can
occur as a result of this process. Because it is a strong, long-wearing
fabric, cotton retains its properties and will not pile.
Maintenance: Dry clean
Washed linen
Washing the linen first results in a rugged, vintage look. Colour
variations will definitely occur during this process, which makes each
roll of fabric unique. The linen may pile in time.
Maintenance: Dry clean.
Rattan peel
This is made from the skin of Rattan. (See Rattan)
Maintenance: Dry brush.
Rivièra Maison furniture is made from a variety of reclaimed timbers. This keeps logging to a minimum.
Any new timbers we use are sourced from sustainable plantations.
