“Now, go forth as the blessed people of God. You are the head and
not the tail. You are above and not beneath. You are the lender
and not the borrower. You are blessed in the city, blessed in the
field. You are blessed as you come and blessed as you go. Blessed
is your basket. Blessed is your store. You are blessed to be salt
and light. God’s grace and mercy and peace be multiplied unto
you, in the Name of Jesus Christ. “
“I pray that Christ Jesus and the church will forever bring praise to God.
His power at work in us can do far more than we dare ask or imagine. Amen.”
Ephesians 3:20-21. CEV
The Project Scope
This year we completed the design phase of the new Children and Youth Center and introduced the project to the
church through the introduction of the Dream BIG Capital Campaign. We are excited about investing in the future of
our youth in a major way. The new Children and Youth Center will be located on the North Side of our 14+acre campus
directly behind the Family Life Center. This new building will add approximately 37,000 square feet to the 60,000+
square feet we have now. As it relates to the overall Master plan introduced in 2007, this is the original spot of the
Children and Youth Facility. In a later phase, the new Worship Center will be built adjacent to the Children and Youth
Center as need and the Holy Spirit directs.
This facility promises to birth the dreams and possibilities of youth all over Central Arkansas. There is still room for
you to jump on board to help make this Dream a reality. Contributions may be made on-site and online.
2
We are blessed with much.
• Over the Past 6 Years, the Dream Team Youth Ministry has
experienced tremendous growth. While we celebrate the numerical
increase, the lack of space has become a major concern to the
Youth ministry staff and our youth.
• Currently our Youth Division offers 23 active and thriving ministries.
• We offer youth services every Sunday and Wednesday in four age
groups including, Kingdom Kids (Pre-K-4th grades), Club 5:6 (5th-6th
grades), No Limit (7th-8th grades) and Powerhouse (9th-12th grades).
• On Monday nights our growing scouting programs are serving well over 200 kids weekly between our Girl
Scouts, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts.
• On Wednesday nights we also serve over 150 youth and adults through our Male and Female Rites of Passage
both from the community and St. Mark.
• As of today we serve over 700 kids weekly at St. Mark. In this number are all of our dance ministries, step team,
and youth choirs that meet each Saturday.
All of this and more takes place in our current facilities that is shared space with several other ministries. This
sharing has limited us from making our areas children and youth friendly environments.
We have a great need.
• The lack of space has caused overheated and uncomfortable rooms.
• When it rains, our children/youth/parents are forced to walk to youth
services being exposed to the elements.
• More technology is needed with this generation and we are just not able
to do that with the current space we have.
• Lack of décor, especially for our small kids. They are becoming
disinterested a lot faster due to the lack of color and vibrancy in their
classrooms.
• There is NO real fellowship space. Because of shared space, the youth
have NO place to call their own.
We believe without a doubt, that this building will give us the opportunity to
do ministry on another level. We have a great volunteer staff, vision and focus
but we need the necessary space to continue to build on the vision.
Any questions regarding the DREAM BIG Capital Campaign may be directed to
Min. Jason Ray at 501-663-3955 ext. 239, jdray@smark.org.
Discipleship
We started the year with the annual Empowerment Workshop in January, presented by the Soul Care Ministry. The
theme was Witness Protection: Guarding What’s Important in Your Life. We discussed topics on how to “guard” our
temper, treasure, time, mind, children and purpose. SSA (Survivors of Sexual Abuse) has gone so well that former
counselees are now counselors. The Soul Care Ministry continues to provide Christian Lay counseling for our growing
congregation as well as the community.
The Marriage Ministry enjoyed a couples retreat at the Grand Hotel in Branson, Missouri, with our own Pastor Earnest
and Minister Roline Thomas, as facilitators. About 25 couples came together for a weekend of fun and fellowship. The
Marriage Ministry also hosted a pool party in the summer and Murry’s Dinner Playhouse in the fall. Our couples have
been blessed by the study “Marriage Is for Losers” by John R. Adolph and a new format this year.
Sunday School attendance is strong. Pastor Pointer has preached and taught on various topics this year and our
adult Sunday School classes has kept pace by studying those same topics. St. Mark produced some of its own study
material - Christian Citizenship, Christian Fellowship, Christian Scholarship, and Christian Worship, written by Pastor
Thomas. Nestled alongside our Sunday School Ministry is the disciple development ministry of Masterlife. MasterLife is
continuing their Monday class, as an additional opportunity for learning how to be a Christian disciple.
Roddy E. Collins School of Ministry had a great year. Over 40 Certificates of Completion were conferred to students who
completed the requirements for “Building the Foundation”, “Bible” and “Bible Prophecy” curriculum. We continue to
draw students from other churches within our community. We added several new instructors, including local pastors, to
our lineup this year, and the enrollment continues to increase from the community.
Men’s Ministry hosted two new events this year - our first “grill master” cooking class and a free oil change Saturday
for our seniors and single mothers. The usual Super Bowl bash was “super” and jump started the year. Our own Pastor
Phillip Pointer was the speaker for the annual Men’s Ministry Breakfast, which reached a record crowd.
The Associate Ministers moved their monthly meeting to fourth Mondays. Several of the associates minister at a local
nursing home to bring encouragement to the residents. This year’s Associates Ministers’ Workshop partnered with
“Training Camp”, a vision birthed by several local pastors to facilitate further training for preaching, teaching and leading.
“Leading with Style” was the theme of our annual Leadership Workshop held on February 8-9. Friday evening service
featured Pastor Phillip Pointer sharing his vision with more than 100 ministry leaders and staff. Several pastors from
within the city facilitated our classes held on Saturday. This workshop informed and inspired everyone who attended.
ENERGY - Living in the Power of the Resurrection was the theme for our Spring Revival. Four dynamic speakers from
across the country energized us each Wednesday night in April - Pastor Arthur Jackson, Miami, FL; Pastor Kelon Duke,
Glenwood, IL; Dr. Charles Goodman, Jr., Augusta, GA; and Pastor Benjamin Adams, Jr., Clearwater, FL. Also during the
month of April, we enjoyed guest speakers during our Wednesday Noon Day Services. It was a refreshing Spring Revival.
7
Media and Marketing
Facilities and Media teamed up to do a major upgrade to our Sanctuary Sound System. We installed a Line-Array Speaker
system replacing the old speaker cluster that was over 20 years old. We followed up with the replacement of the old
Sound board in the balcony. Our original sound system having endured several lightning strikes plus old age was at the
end of its useful life.
We developed the print and audio-visual elements for the DREAM BIG Capital Campaign.
We coordinated and gave oversight to audio-visual elements of the Family Conference. We provided design, radio, and
video elements throughout the entire registration process and the weekend itself.
The entire sound team attended sound training in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
We reached more than 3,200 likes on the main St. Mark Facebook page.
We continued connecting with our audiences through regular tweets on our Twitter page, including tweets of sermon
notes throughout live messages.
We saw our largest number of simultaneous viewers to-date on our Livestream feed in June and we average 390 viewers
per week.
The St. Mark church app for iPhones and Androids was released in November 2012. In one year the app has been
downloaded 2,090 times, with 18,795 launches.
Membership Support
Women’s Ministry sponsored several events for the women of St. Mark
including the Women’s Ministry Kickoff entitled “Image is Everything, What’s
Your Reflection” that included several ladies providing skits and presentations
on our church theme for 2013. The Women’s Ministry also sponsored a
Women’s Retreat in Dallas, TX ending with worship service at the Potter’s
House, the “Ladies Day Out” road trip to Shreveport, and many other events
throughout the year.
The Women’s Ministry Prayer Breakfast was again a blessing with Pastor Debra
Reed from Memphis, TN. The women were indeed blessed from the Word and
Worship along with a wonderful breakfast.
St. Mark ranked
#61 in Outreach
Magazine’s 2013
“Outreach 100
American’s Fastest-
Growing Churches”
issue.
Junior & Senior Usher’s Ministry participated in
the Southern Regional Usher’s Conference and
the Arkansas State Ushers Conference. Several
of the ushers hold regional offices with the
conference. St. Mark has several ushers who
are certified trainers and conduct workshops
throughout the city and state.
Early Morning Prayer which is our “Sweet
Hour of Prayer” was revamped to incorporate
a conference call prayer line on Wednesday
mornings.
The Golden Saints Ministry that ministers to
our members 60 & up continues to be a leading
example to other ministries on ministering to
the needs for the Baby Boomer Generation. As
our population continues to age, we are finding
innovative ways to meet those needs through
local cultural events and performances as well
as our first Golden Saints Cookbook which was
made up of recipes from our own members.
Facilities and Operations
We completed the design phase of the new Children and Youth Center with the introduction of the Dream BIG Capital
Campaign. We are excited about investing in the future of our youth in a major way. This facility promises to birth the
dreams and possibilities of youth all over Central Arkansas. There is still room for you to jump on board to help make
this Dream a reality.
We completed a major renovation to all of the restrooms in the Worship Center. The renovations included new flooring,
vanities, tile backsplashes and surrounds, sinks, mirrors, lighting, and painting. The rooms now have a new and chic look.
Thanks for your patience!
We hosted the Little Rock School District 2013-2014 school registration event and the new superintendent selection
committee Advisory Board.
We had a successful completion of the 2012 financial audit by an independent certified public accounting firm.
We awarded scholarships to over 50 students for the 2013-2014 school years. St. Mark has awarded over $500,000 in
scholarships over the last twenty years.
Ministry Support
This year we hosted our 1st ever Family Conference: The Dynamics. The first night of this 3-day event started off with
a bang. A Night of Champions was held at the Verizon Arena where we experienced an awe-inspiring address from
NFL Great Ray Lewis and an electrifying performance from Kirk Franklin. Friday night we were back at the church for
Man Cave, Dynamic Youth, Dynamic Kids and Dynamic Women hosting Dr. Lisa Weah and Gaye Arbuckle. On Saturday,
families enjoyed a relaxing day at the Little Rock Zoo. Sunday, we closed out the weekend with guest preachers Pastor
Ben Parkinson and Pastor Mark DeYmaz.
The Security Ministry was revamped to include more team members and added the assistance of the Little Rock Police
Department with officers on campus. This ministry also went through an intensive first ever 2-day training workshop.
The staff and Leadership continued the tradition of hosting the Annual Family Night Out on our campus. This year’s
event was hosted on the Friday Night before Church Anniversary. The weather was perfect; and the food, fun and
fellowship was great as always.
We held the Annual Church Picnic “St. Mark Family Reunion” back at the Clinton Presidential Center. Having it a little
later in the year provided some wonderful weather this year. The fish and the chicken were EXTRA good this year. The
men definitely did their thing on the grills and fryers.
Music & Worship
The St. Mark Sanctuary Choir continues to commit itself to praise. The choir has sung all over the city of Little Rock and
surrounding area. God continues to show His favor and this year has been an awesome demonstration of God’s love and
faithfulness to our music ministry. We have hosted Gospel greats Jonathon McReynolds, Y’anna Crawley, San Franklin-
Jackson, Kirk Franklin, The Wardlaw Brothers, Darrell Petties and the incomparable Kurt Carr and the Kurt Carr Singers.
The Sanctuary Choir was named the National Winner of the Verizon How Sweet the Sound choir competition in
November 2013. The victory followed three previous regional wins in 2010, 2012, and 2013. They won prizes totaling
$40,000 this year, of which $25,000 and a recording contract came from the national title. The choir has also won several
other local awards and honors.
Outreach
Served as host church for the C.A.L.L. Annual Prayer Breakfast for pastors within Pulaski County to educate and create
awareness for pastors and churches to become more involved in the foster care and adoption process in the Little Rock
Community. Over 30 pastors were in attendance.
We took the First Place finish for the second consecutive year in the Church Division during the THV and Arkansas
Foodbank Summer Cereal Drive with 7,919 boxes of cereal collected to bless hungry children across the State of
Arkansas.
We partnered with the American Red Cross and over 25 volunteers from St. Mark completed Disaster Assistance Training.
Three are currently certified to assist with Sheltering and Client Casework.
In 2013, The Aftercare Ministry expanded its effort by partnering with the Bess Chisum Stephens Community Center and
Baptist Hospital, Little Rock by offering grief support sessions at both locations to assist family members dealing with the
grief process. In July, we held a Butterfly Release Memorial Service with Baptist Hospital employees and the community
in honor of deceased family members and friends. Over 50 families and friends were in attendance.
Church-wide Haiti Shoe Drive collected over 2,100 pairs of shoes for the country of Haiti. During the drive we had a
special visit and presentation from Ms. Haiti International, Hermanie Pierre, who resides in Arkansas.
A 5-member Foreign Mission team traveled to Pignon, Haiti to conduct a Women’s Conference. 110 women attended the
conference with 27 women asking for prayer or making re-dedication commitments.
A 6-member youth team traveled to Haiti to conduct a Youth Summer Conference with 150 youth in attendance.
St. Mark donated $3900 to Hosean International Ministries to sponsor 10 school-age children. The sponsorships include
one meal per day, uniforms, health care, tuition and books for the academic year. All of the sponsored youth were
promoted to the next grade. Individual St. Mark members sponsored an additional 10 children in Haiti.
Moore, Oklahoma
On June 29 th , over 50 volunteers along with the Senior Pastor traveled to Moore,
OK and worked in conjunction with ServeMoore and Covenant Life Assembly
Church. Teams were dispatched to assist with debris removal, distributing
information to residents, providing prayer, and stocking supplies in the food
pantry. Moore, Oklahoma was devastated by an EF-5 Tornado on May 22,
2013 that left 2,400 homes damaged, an elementary school destroyed, with an
estimated wind range from 200-210 mph, and was 1.3 miles wide.
At the Annual Back To School Health Fair we served over 700 youth, who received free physicals, dental and eye
screenings, immunizations and school supplies for a savings to parents totaling $85,000.
We again partnered with the Derek Lewis Foundation and area churches for the 2013 Health & Wellness Expo. This great
event served adults and youth this year with free physicals, prostate screenings and other important health checks for
the community.
Over 100 Women and Men registered with Team St. Mark for the 2013 Race For The Cure.
Our annual Easter and Fall Blood Drives with the American Red Cross had over 140 donors who donated over 100
productive units of whole blood that impacted over 300 lives.
The Visitation Ministry continues to make an impact in the lives of members and non-members by visiting nursing
homes, hospitals, individual homes and assisting with various needs upon request.
St. Mark served as host church for the 3rd Annual Veteran’s Benefits Fair to connect veterans with helpful resources for a
better life.
We held our annual Y.E.S. Camp with an “Everywhere Fun Fair” theme. We were able to impact more youth as we
partnered with over 16 community organizations. It was a global celebration with the look and feel of a world’s fair. Our
children discovered the people, countries and customs of Japan, Zimbabwe, Australia, United Kingdom, and Mexico.
They discovered that we are all neighbors and all children of God!
At Y.E.S. Camp, certified physical education teachers and guest instructors provided unique physical activities such as
salsa dancing, African drum lessons, tennis lessons, golf lessons and team sports. At least two weekly fields trips were
planned to reinforce the curriculum and encourage neighborly skills within our own communities.
Y.E.S Camp was the only church camp to celebrate with the Central Arkansas Library System in the dedication of the
Hillary Rodham Clinton Children’s Library with the former Secretary of State and First Lady in attendance.
Our teens contributed numerous hours at the Arkansas Food Bank and distributed sack lunches to the homeless within
the 12th Street corridor.
The Prison Ministry added a new unit in the worship service rotation - Mental Health Forensic Unit at the Arkansas State
Hospital on the 5 th Thursdays in the year. The ministry continued monthly visits and donated Communion Kits to the
Pine Bluff Women’s Unit. We also started follow-up visits to men who accepted Jesus Christ durng worship services at
the Department of Corrections Men’s Unit. A four-week Bible study, “How to Study the Bible”, was presented by the
Discipleship Pastor at the Men’s Unit.
16
Dream Team Youth
Kingdom Kidz Children, Club 5:6 Pre-teen, No Limit Middle School and Powerhouse Teen Ministries continued to make
an impact on youth by offering age specific services which address their issues and concerns on Sunday Mornings and
Wednesday Nights. Fellowship and fun events took place throughout the year.
Our Youth Choirs, Praise Dance and Step Ministries continued to minister in youth and sanctuary worship services.
Our Scout ministries continued their rich history of accomplishments this year. Cub Scout Pack #467 was revamped
and continues to be a very effective ministry within the youth division. Boy Scouts Troop #467 celebrated its 50th
anniversary, and it continues to lead as one of the top troops in the country. Two new Eagles were inducted. Girl
Scout Troop #6659 continued to lead the entire state in cookie sales. The troop ventured to Savannah, GA to visit the
birthplace of the founder of Girl Scouts.
Our quarterly youth explosions continued to impact the City of Little Rock by building youth spiritually.
Our Male and Female Rites of Passage ministries provided ongoing spiritual guidance and
personal development to teen youth. The adult guides offered great leadership to our youth.
Developed and implemented a Mime Ministry. Our membership was blessed by their creative
and powerful form of worship.
After six years of leadership and service to the D.R.E.A.M. Team and St. Mark, Pastor “Big” Nate
Stewart received a great opportunity in ministry in Cleveland, Ohio. The youth and dedicated
volunteers in youth ministries were sad to see he and his wife leave, but we are excited for their
new endeavor.
Singles, Young Adults
Single by Design held a continuation of the Conversation with Pastor P after the first conversation went so well. Singles
were excited to hear more insight on serving God during their single season.
The “Man in the Mirror” event gave singles an opportunity for self-reflection and insight to the things God is trying to
develop in each single to glorify Him. Another event “Temptation: How to say no when you want to yes”, was also well
attended. Both events were open discussions giving singles the opportunity to share and learn from one another.
GQ Man – God’s Quality Man – was a fashion show designed to showcase the positive single brothers in our church and
our community who are living godly lives.
Single by design focused on two outreach projects this year. In March, we had a special Spring Cleanup project which
benifitted one of the Golden Saints from St. Mark in cleaning up her yard. The singles served dinner for the homeless at
Our House in August.
Single by Design took a day-trip to Memphis in May. This was a great time of fellowship, which included shopping, eating
out and enjoying the Beale Street experience.
Singles hosted St. Mark Got Talent, a small talent competition for singers, poets and actors in July.
Frontline hosted its 3rd Annual Block Party featuring local vendors from the Central Arkansas area. Even though the
weather was rainy, a few hundred people stopped by to support this great event.
Open Mic Night provided a chance for young adults to come out and enjoy clean entertainment in a fun atmosphere.
Frontline also hosted Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems, designed to help young adults understand their finances better.
The very popular Hot Topics, Pt. 2 drew a great crowd to discuss things that young adults deal with on a regular basis.
26 men, who serve the congregation as servant
leaders. The role of deacons reflects the ultimate
in spiritual greatness since Jesus said the true
measure of greatness is in one being the greatest
servant of all. The duties of Deacons are to assist
in meeting the spiritual, physical, material, and
temporal needs of the members; to serve as a
support group to the Elders; to guard the unity
of the spirit within the church and to perform
other duties and responsibilities delegated and
prescribed by the Senior Pastor and/or the Board
of Elders.
