EDITORS NOTE
Inspiration comes in different forms from different
things we see in life. In most times it is due to
words spoken that we find ourselves uplifted and
inspired. In this Issue we have covered Sifiso Nene
a renowned South African Multi –Award winning
Comedian who beat so many odds in his life to
succeed and become who he is today, we also
feature Sicelo Ncube who is making great waves
as a motivational speaker in KZN. We hope that
these two young gentleman will evoke a sense of
self belief in you, wanting to forge ahead with your
dreams and knowing that time is never a factor
where growth is the goal. We have also welcomed
a new member to our team, Nkosi Ngcobo
(IG:StylebyNK) who will be our Classic Man
columnist going forward. I hope you feel your
youth, you explore it and you embrace inspiration!

It is not every day where you
meet a person who breeds humility.
Being in the lime light and having
to entertain millions as a daily job,
a career, Sifiso Nene has not
forgotten who he is. He is as shy
with a calm and low tone and so
respectful I feel comfortable and at
ease as I speak to him though it is
for the first time in person. We are
sitting in a corner table at Nino’s
West Street in Durban. He just
came in to drop off more of his

Books store from Johannesburg.
Seems like the book is flying off the
shelves and I haven’t even read it.
yet He tells me he’ll give me a copy
once we done and I ask him to sign
it.

B E G G I N I N G S
Sifiso Nkosikhona Nene was
born in Mandeni and shares
his mother and father with
two sisters and a younger
brother. From a small rural
town growing up wasn’t easy.
His journey to stardom began
all those years ago through
the experiences he
underwent.
He had to grow up very
quickly and look after
himself at the age of 10.
Sometimes we often wish
we had fathers if we’ve
never known how it was
like to have one, yet his
own fatherly experience
was far from a loving one.
If it wasn’t for his strong
and loving mom, Sifiso
could have become
violent and abusive but
instead he managed to
change all that into what
we know and see him as
today…Mzansi’s funniest
guy.
Like many young people
who have dreams for their
future, Sifiso moved to
Durban to study and
pursue his dreams. When
he got to Durban he began
working in-order to save
up money to study and
eventually amidst all of
that discovered his talent
in comedy. He used to
travel
between
Johannesburg and Durban
almost every weekend to
network and learn more
about his craft. Though it
wasn’t easy because at
times he would sleep at the
station if the bus left him.
At this point he says “ I had
taken the first step in
building my career and
brand” I ask him where he
would rate his
achievements thus far and
he replies “perhaps I have
only achieved 20% of my
ultimate goal. I believe
there is more that God has
instore for me, all should
be comedy related though
because I want to keep it
real”. He says he looks up
to Lady’ Smith Black
Mambazo who have
worked very diligently to
maintain their brand. And
that the use of social
networks should be limited
to promoting his work and
brand.

He says he is a shy guy, loves reading,
loves music and anything original. He’s all
about genuineness. He also does movies a
lot. He reads a lot to constantly stay
abreast with his material and it also helps
him with his craft. When I ask him about
his qualification he was busy with when he
discovered his passion he says ” its

Sifiso has been in the comedy
genre for seven years now. He
published his first Book titled
OUR FATHER, an Autobiography
that he wrote and published
himself. The book is well written
and easy to grasp. It tells a story
of how he grew up and struggled
to become the man he is today.
Having toured the country doing
gigs’, MC’ing and making guest
appearances, he is finally giving
his fans a one man show; BABY
MAMA DRAMA the national tour
which begins on the 3rd October
to the 31st October 2015. E

Over the past
two decades we were
part of the bigger
audience to
entertainment films
that were crafted
everywhere else but in
South Africa. Slowly
the trend changed and
we began to enjoy our
own productions
which were telling our
own stories. However,
the plight of a film
producer in South
Africa lies beyond the
constrictions of scarce
financing methods.
SOUTH AFRICA
PIONEERS FILMS IN THE
BOX OFFICE
Many will remember the excitement when South
Africans flocked into cinemas in numbers, to watch
TSOTSI in 2004. Almost ten years later slowly more
movies filled up the box office. From JERUSALEMA
to WHITE WEDDING, PARADISE STOP, DISTRICT
9, INVICTUS, MANDELA, and many others. There
was hope for a South Arica that was previously
prevented to be in the big screens.
In recent years we have seen bigger and better
productions from our Film Industry. The
Department of Trade and Industry has really
contributed enormously to the growth of Black
Productions and in developing our film industry.
With investment into young unknown acts who
have received lead characters in Blockbuster
movies from South Africa. It is good and
encouraging as well as inspiring to see that
indeed our film industry is emerging graciously
in the right direction. Movies like HARD TO
GET, INUMBER-NUMBER, TELL ME SWEET
SOMETHING and most recently AYANDA
(comes out 02 October Nationwide)
Are sweeping veiwers off their budgets as more
people flock to cinemas to view them. E

PIECES OF ME
BLACK COFFEE has again produced a
master piece in his newly released
album which remained in the top 5
albums on iTunes For 3 weeks in a
row. The “We Dance Again –
Challenge” which Dj black Coffee
has been running on Instagram has
also helped keep the first single from
the album on the top of everyone's

THE DAILY SHOW
with Trevor Noah
Trevor Noah who was announced as the
new host for the Daily show which is an
American comedy show debuted
on Tuesday night on our screens. The
show has its basis around American
Politics. If you know Trevor you would
know that he is no new comer to
political comedy. It is his forte. The
show was entertaining as much as it was
what you would expect from it. He
gave an acknowledgment of Jon
Stewart as the outgoing host. One thing
for sure is that if you are a South
African, Trevor has definitely made you
proud.
KEEPING UP WITH THE
KARDASHIANS
In the new season the famous family airs
some of its most intimate and personal
moments concerning the Bruce-Caitlyn
transition. Kim K-West also reveals in the
first show that she is pregnant with baby
number 2. The family also travels to
Amenia, their birth country next to
Jerusalem when Husband Kanye performs
and mimics “Jesus’s Walk on Water” move.
We hope to see Rob Kardashian also come
out of his depression. Sadly though, Nielsen
ratings data revealed that only 1.29 million
viewers tuned in to watch the
premiere episode of "KUWTK" season 11, aired on
Sept. 20. The report suggests that it's bad news for the
Kardashians because the crucial 18-49 demographic
only accounted 600,000 individuals
ALL ACCESS MZANSI
Mzansi Magic is really on a roll with new
shows which are targeting the younger
demographics. It seems for DSTV
subscribers entertainment is never short
of. All Access Mzansi is set to compete for
the 18h30 time slot shared with Club 808
on e-tv and Skeem-Sam on SABC1. The 3
hosts are not new on our screens but new
in presenting. It promises to be an
interesting all roundedentertainment

The convenience of todays technology allows us
to meet various inspiring individuals without
having to meet in person. When I came across
Scelo Mncube’s profile a while back on
Facebook, I was impressed. Luckily he had been
a reader of Expressions Magazine and was keen
for an interview.
WHY MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKING?
“ I am a Motivational speaker and a Life
coach mainly because of my background”
Scelo was raised by a single parent who
passed on when he was 13 years old. He

realised his gift of motivational speaking in
2009 while he was still doing grade 10. He
continued doing motivation up until he went
for Ukhozi FM auditions where out of 800
participants he was on the top 3.
Humble beginnings have not only taught him
strength but given him the Zeal and wisdom to
impact positivity in others, young and old.
When one is gifted there is only one thing that
can deter them from success, their own attitude.
His background was not an excuse to pity
himself, instead he used it as his motivation to
motivate others
Scelo has managed to use networking and his
contacts to launch a business. He is now an
Entrepreneur owning a company called
"Power of tongue communications“ As a
motivational speaker he is under
management of Umusa Events.
His upcoming projects include his first
motivational album called LIFE LESSONS. E

The Father of SA Storytelling
When South Africa first head about a TV
drama which was short in the dry cracked
streets of Soweto which would tell the
plight of a young South African people in
the emergence of the new South Africa, we
all had not seen, head or even thought that
it would be of the magnitude it was. YIZO
YIZO premiered in 1997 just three years
after the black population experienced
their first time at voting.
A series of heart throbbing, mental
stimulating and very relative South African
stories followed under the narrative,
production and directing of Angus Gibson.
Some of those include not just a multiaward
winning film and Television
producer, he has contributed immensely in
grooming new artists / actors/ actresses in
our country. Many have stared in his
productions as young new faces and have
proceeded to grow their craft and careers
in the industry. The likes of Siyabonga
Thwala, Jet Novuka, Bonginkosi Zola
Dlamini, Sophie Ndaba, Sthandiwe
Kgoroge, Thembi Nyandeni etc have
graced our screens for almost two decades.
Two years ago we were again introduced to a
telenovela which sought to tell the rural
entrepreneurship, livelihood, traditional beliefs
etc within the taxi industry. ISIBAYA brought new
faces like Nomzamo Mbatha , Jessica Nkosi,
Sdumo Mtshali and Pallance dladla. We have
fallen in love with not only their characters but
also their personalities beyond the small screen.
Their careers have also grown in leaps as doors
into the big screen were opened.
Angus Gibson is indeed the Father of story telling
in South Africa because his work tells its own
tale. It is always rooted from authenticity,
geniuses and accuracy. He does not compromise
with any aspect that makes up a great
production. The actors, sound, visuals, etc. are all
done at 100% as if its a movie production. He
has preserved our history in the current SA and
how the previous regime affected the socioeconomic
status, beliefs, financial stability
inequality etc. and gave rise to what Modern
South Africa is today.
Recent productions include AYEYE and THE
ROAD which have all aired on MZANSI MAGIC.
