Dear Friends,
from the president
Amidst unprecedented change, we’ve had an amazing year. All eyes, it
seemed, were on Hill-Murray and we wanted to show them our best selves,
a conscious choice to strengthen our resolve and our efforts in providing
superior Catholic education. Our students are thriving in the company of
those who love, care for and respect them and their right to grow spiritually,
intellectually and socially. They are wholeheartedly committed to their membership in a
strong and proud community of faith and our graduates leave Hill-Murray confident, capable
and resilient. They’re not only ready for the rigors of college study; they’re ready to make
communities beyond our school better because of their membership here.
In the fall of 2010, our Board of Trustees embarked on a thorough envisioning process,
engaging students and parents, alumni and benefactors, to guide the school’s strategic vision
over the next several years and to define key characteristics in a search for a new president.
I was both humbled and excited to be selected in January of 2011. That same envisioning
process also helped inform a search for a new principal, someone with a demonstrated
commitment to Catholic education and a dynamic, innovative, collaborative leadership style.
In July of 2011, David Meyer became our new principal, a position I held for the past twenty
years.
As a Catholic prep school, rooted in the Benedictine tradition, we gathered as a faith
community for so many reasons this past school year – we gathered to support one another,
to celebrate our academic and cocurricular accomplishments and to pray for one another. I
don’t remember a year when I’ve had so many opportunities to stand before our members
and talk about the strength of our loving community -- whether at a parent social, an all-school
Mass or at a pep fest to send us off to a state tournament appearance. The strength of our
school community is not accidental, or coincidental, or merely value-added. We are a very
intentional community of faithful people who believe in God, believe in each other, believe in
ourselves and believe in Hill-Murray School.
As supporters of our school, I want to assure you that you have and continue to invest wisely.
I have the privilege of leading our school at a time of great energy and hope and I want to
thank you for being with us, every step of the way. We are truly blessed with your prayers, your
friendship, and with your continued financial support.
Sincerely,
Susan N. Paul, Ed.D
