Rescue<br />
waggin’<br />
With help from the PetSmart Charities Rescue Waggin’,<br />
the DRHS is rescuing animals from southern<br />
overcrowded shelters. As of March 15th, the DRHS<br />
has recieved 153 dogs and puppies, and are expecting<br />
two more transports by the end of the month!<br />
"In southern states where the temperature is<br />
very warm, there is an even higher population of<br />
homeless dogs, and those dogs don't have much<br />
of a chance. When they can't get adopted in a<br />
shelter, they are often euthanized,"<br />
said Maria Benham, president and CEO of the<br />
Dubuque Regional Humane Society.<br />
The DRHS is set to take in and care for over<br />
500 animals from the rescue program and on average<br />
cares for over 2500 animals on an annual basis.<br />
