PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The 2016 Digital Currency and Blockchain Technology National Institute will take place on April 1, 2016,
in Washington, DC. This special program is dedicated to in-depth analysis of the emerging legal issues
and the latest legal events concerning digital currencies, like Bitcoin, and blockchain technology. It will
be an informative and exciting opportunity for anyone interested in better understanding the interplay
of the law and digital currencies and blockchain technology. The speakers and panels will explore these
substantive topics:
• Blockchain innovations and opportunities
• Consumer protection and state licensing
• Global AML and regulatory efforts
• Recent law enforcement actions
In doing so, they will broadly cover these areas of interest:
• What are digital currency and blockchain technology and how do they work
• How are businesses (including start-ups), law enforcement, and regulators approaching digital
currency and blockchain technology
• What the future might hold
We are delighted to announce that panelists include an array of legal leaders in their respective
fields, such as John Beccia (General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Circle), Serrin Turner
(Cybercrime Coordinator at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York), Jeffrey
Newman (General Counsel of Euronet Worldwide), Gabrielle Patrick (Co-Founder and General Counsel
of Epiphyte), Jerry Brito (Executive Director of Coin Center), Patrick Murck (Fellow at the Berkman
Center at Harvard University and Special Counsel at Pillsbury Winthrop), Vivian Maese (Partner at
Latham Watkins), and James Murdock (General Counsel and Vice President of Business Development at
