BELIEVE IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AS A TEAM
MANAGER OVER THE DEVELOPMENT AND
TRAINING OF THESE YOUNGSTERS?
Over the past years, in my point of view, the responsibilities
in being a team manager have changed.
Whilst before I have been more involved in teaching
and educating drivers directly within their driving and
technical skills, today I share that responsibility more
with their technicians and driver coaches. My job is to
ensure that the team works professionally as a team,
that qualified key people are in key roles and that decisions
are made together based on facts and in the best
interest of the drivers.
I personally have taken more responsibility to educate
the youngsters in terms of social skills; what it takes
to be professional and prepared not only for racing, but
also in today’s world. As a team manager, I believe that I
have to ensure that our youngsters or ‘young grownups’
understand how important it is to maintain communication. Only real dedication and
putting the effort in, will lead to success and happiness in the long term.
Sometimes I also take the role just being their friend who they can feel free to talk to
about their thoughts, fears or even problems they might face.
