After a romantic (and successful!)
proposal in Queensland, Cindy and
Kane had their own unique story
that they couldn’t wait to share
with Stephens Jewellers. Buying
locally was important for Kane and
Stephens Jewellers in Shepparton
was easily his first choice.
A
fter an initial meeting with exciting design discussions,
Stephen (Owner) and Frank (Operations
Manager) were quick to use their experience and styling
expertise, to bring together a design that would suit
Cindy’s taste and desires. After personally sourcing a
diamond that suited their budget, Stephen and Frank
refined their design to bring Cindy’s dream ring to life.
When the ring was finally revealed, Cindy was overwhelmed
by the beauty of this unique, new engagement
ring on her hand!
“This exemplifies what we are
all about – delivering beyond our
customers expectations.”
– STEPHEN SCHNEIDER
HEAR IT FROM THEM!
Cindy and Kane share their experience about
designing the ring of their dreams.
“We would like to personally thank Stephen and Frank at Stephens
Jewellers for their outstanding customer service and personal touch.
After we became engaged, we decided we would like to design a
custom ring that suited Cindy’s exquisite taste. With a modern vintage
style in mind, we knew that we required Stephen’s expertise in ring
design and diamond selection.
We approached Stephen and his team in full confidence that he could
produce the exact design Cindy had in mind.
The private consultation process was professionally conducted and
thorough. Multiple display rings were presented for Cindy to try on
and the discussion of all the complexities were also discussed around
the diamond, clarity, cut and setting.
Many design ideas were discussed and within a short period of time
Stephen had come up with a depiction of what the ring would look like.
WORTH A
thousand
WORDS
Capturing those natural yet magical moments during your
wedding is what contributes to the beautiful memories you
and your partner will have for the rest of your lives together
– after all, this will be one of the main photo albums you’ll
have treasured in your family for generations.
Stephens’s knowledge of diamonds was outstanding! He took us
through all the technical aspects of diamonds and how it would alter
the setting of the ring.
After the design was drafted and Cindy had confirmed that it met her
expectation, the ring was ready to be made.
Upon hearing back from Frank a few weeks later, we both eagerly
headed into Stephens Jewellers with excitement.
To Cindy’s joy the ring far exceeded her expectations. The glimmer
and defraction of light from the diamonds just popped! It could not
have been any more perfect.
We would like to personally thank Stephen, Frank and the team at
Stephens Jewellers for ensuring this experience is one to remember.”
Be our guest
With the growth in digital
photography and image editing
available these days, choosing a
photographer appropriate for your
big day can present a real challenge
and, without proper consideration,
you could be making a costly and
emotional mistake.
With 35 years experience in wedding
photography Dale Wright offers his
advice on how to successfully select
a photographer and achieve perfect
wedding photography.
Choose a professional
The term ‘photographers’ can be used quite loosely these days as almost anyone
can take a reasonably good quality photo using their mobile phone or
with any of the common and competitively priced cameras available today.
However, as Dale points out, “Many of us also own a hammer, but that does not
make us a builder. If I need a builder, I look for a qualified one, with a licence,
certificates, experience and references”. The same type of process should be
applied to researching for a photographer.
Your search should begin by finding someone who is part of the Australian
Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) and, who specialises in wedding
photography, “Always ask for the credentials and qualifications and your
wedding photographer. Being part of the AIPP should be a prerequisite”.
It might take you a bit more time but will make all the difference to your
photography experience.
Get to know each other
It is important to have a good rapport
with your photographer as remember,
they will be with you for most of your
day! It is important you are both relaxed
with your photographer, as this will
reflect well in your final images. Meet
with your prospective photographer,
have a coffee, chat about yourself and
discuss you wedding plans, thoughts
and ideas. The more comfortable you
feel with your photographer, the more
successful your wedding photography
will be.
Find someone to suit your
style
Each photographer will have his or
her own aesthetic so ensure you select
one that matches your vision for
the day. However, don’t rely on web
images to help make your decision.
As Dale highlights, “Maybe you have
seen their work on their website, Facebook
or other social media sites. Make
sure you see their images in print
form, completed portraits, albums,
enlargements, products and styles
of finishes”. When meeting with your
photographer, ask to view their portfolio,
and pay attention to the details
– “Look carefully and check the quality
of their work and product; the details,
colour, clarity of the image, the quality
and feel of the paper, canvas, metal
or leather”. Their previous work should
inspire you and allow you to feel confident
in your decision.
Price doesn’t always
equal quality
Like most services, basing your choice
on price alone doesn’t ensure you get
the best service. Dale suggests you
look at the overall value your photographer
can give you, “Value = Quality
+ Service + Price. Your wedding photos
are your most important and valuable
investment. The value you place
on choosing the right photographer
will show for many years”. When deciding
on your photographer, ensure
you consider the long term value of
the images.
Craftsmanship
Having good equipment is important
for any workman, however, knowing
how to use it properly sets apart
the amateurs from the professionals.
Dale shares his belief that it takes art,
craftsmanship, quality work habits
and experience to master techniques,
which will provide you with the highest
quality photography. “Photographers
have to know how to capture the right
moment,” Dale says, “how to compose
and expose properly, how to use
light, shape and form in order to get
the most flattering and artistic results
and poses”.
Timeframes
Being realistic with your timeframe is
essential when planning your wedding
day and communicating this with your
photographer is equally as important.
Allowing extra time is essential for
a successful day and will save you
both time and money. “Consult with
your photographer regularly. Arrive
at the service on time and give your
photographer at least 2 hours after your
ceremony for creative photography”
offers Dale, “Remember to allow for
daylight and leave yourself enough
time to eat, get dressed and relax!”
Establish a back up plan
To avoid extra stresses on the day,
ensure you are prepared for any
unpredictable changes. Plan for wet
weather, including a sheltered option
for your photography location, and
reconfirm your plans and times with
everyone. Dale would also encourage
you to make photography a priority
of each of your bridal party, “By all
means, enjoy a drink and have fun,
but the photographer will need your
attention and cooperation – plus, you’ll
want them all to look their best!”
Enjoy yourself!
Just have fun! This is your big day so
make sure you take it all in and enjoy
every minute. As Dale reminds each of
his newly weds, “You have done everything
you can so trust in the people
you have hired and their guarantees”.
A Gift for Yourself
Dale believes wedding day photography
should be seen as an investment
because, “As the years fly
past, it’s the images of your wedding
day which you will reach for
time and time again to remember
the day by. The décor, the food and
the entertainment will only last the
day, but your photographs will become
more and more valuable and
precious.” Your photography is the
gift you give to yourselves”.
CREATING
MEMORIES
Stephens Jewellers is always searching
for new quality products to bring to our
customers in regional Victoria and the
Riverina district of NSW.
Over recent times increasing numbers of brides and
debutauntes have been complaining about the shortage
of fine quality “special occasion” accessories to
wear with their formal gowns.
So our quest began to look towards Europe for a
designer of premium quality vintage and classically
styled formal wear accessories, just as our Mothers
and Grand Mothers once wore.
Abrazi Jewellery stood out from the crowd and we
are delighted to showcase this wonderful collection
Bride &
Mothers of the
Bride & Groom
Jewellery is a chance to dazzle guests and feel confident on an
incredibly special day. Don’t be overwhelmed by all the choice,
just follow some simple rules of thumb:
Chain
$399
Opt for timeless classics like
diamonds and pearls, which give a
hint of heritage and heirloom. There’s
nothing worse than cringing at photos
years later, questioning your look. You
want to be glamorous, not edgy or
faddy.
It’s the little things
that make a wedding
really special – and
incredible jewellery is
one of them. Here’s
how to sparkle on
your big day.
Weddings. They can make even the hardiest cynic tear up upon sight of the excited bride making her way
down the aisle. Not to mention the man waiting for her at the end. (Most women will agree, there is
nothing like a weepy groom to make the heart melt.)
Buy your dress first, then your
jewellery. Make sure your jewellery
doesn’t overwhelm your outfit, or the
reverse: that it can hardly be seen.
Less is more, though. Think about it
as a balancing act – the more ornate
your dress, the simpler your jewellery.
Pick quality pieces you can see
yourself wearing again. It makes the
investment that little bit more worthwhile,
plus you’ll forever have the
memories attached.
and – one of the best things of all – the chance to dress up in beautiful clothes.
And where would stunning outfits be without gorgeous jewellery? Whether it’s the bridal party, the mothers of
CIRCLE
You found The One, and you’re marrying
them. So now it’s time to find the perfect
wedding ring. Here’s our handy guide to
getting it right.
What you need to know
Check how the ring sits with your engagement ring How do the two rings
look side-by-side? If your engagement ring has a very big central stone,
there might be a gap in between the two rings, which bothers some people.
In this case, consider how a curved wedding ring may be deigned to curve
around the engagement ring or consider how a fitted wedding ring may be
designed to interlock with the engagement ring. You might also want to
think ahead, and leave room for an anniversary eternity ring (hey, wishful
thinking never hurt anyone).
But don’t over-think it Sure, it’s nice to have your wedding ring complement
your engagement ring, but don’t stress if they’re not twins. They’re two
separate rings for two separate reasons, and seeing that distinction isn’t
necessarily a bad thing. In fact, some people prefer it.
Be yourself Don’t feel obliged to pick a plain wedding ring just because it’s
tradition. Look at unique accents and interesting details in case they appeal
even more. Remember: your wedding ring should match your personality,
no one else’s.
Throw in some diamonds Once you’ve chosen the wedding ring, consider
popping a few diamonds (or other precious gemstones) into the ring.
Diamond-set wedding rings are a popular choice, largely because they
provide a beautiful sparkly backdrop for engagement rings. Of course,
diamonds aren’t just for the girls. Consider a single diamond or coloured
stone in the groom’s ring, too.
Princess pink; StarTrek themed; on horseback; under a
teepee in the garden... no matter how different each
and every wedding, one simple piece of jewellery connects
them all: the wedding ring. The age-old tradition symbolises
commitment like no other object on earth, transcending
cultures, languages and religions across the globe.
Like any tradition, though, it’s evolving: wedding rings
have historically been plain gold, but in recent times
more detailed and ornate styles have caught on.
Gemstones, engravings, unique patterns - there’s now
a world of choice, and a tempting one at that.
So how to choose? Should you keep it simple or opt for
something fancier? As something you’ll wear for the rest
of your life, one thing’s for sure - it pays to spend some time
choosing a wedding ring that’s perfect for you.
I always thought
I’d go for a pretty traditional
wedding ring, but when we went
shopping for them I came across one I
loved instantly. It was white gold, quite
thick, and had a small square emerald in
the middle. My now-husband loved it too,
so we chose one similar for him - he wasn’t
so keen on the emerald, though. He said
he’d feel like a mafia boss. So instead
I had a tiny little one put on the
inside of his ring, where only
he would know it was there.
Karen, 28
“My fiancé and I knew we
wanted quite plain wedding rings.
My engagement ring was a simple solitaire
so the goal was something equally as simple
and understated. We didn’t mind if they
didn’t match each other, and we both found
rings we loved quickly with the help of our
jeweller – mine a plain 18ct yellow gold ring
and his a 18ct white and yellow gold ring.
What made them even more special
was the engraving - ‘You have my heart.’”
Material girl
A key factor when choosing a
wedding ring is the metal it’s
made out of. For the bride, it is
normally determined by what
metal her engagement ring is.
GOLD
Prized since prehistoric times, gold
is a reliable choice as it doesn’t rust,
tarnish or corrode. It also mixes well
with other metals. Wedding rings
come in 9ct, 10ct, 14ct, 18ct and 22ct
gold, which can be yellow, white or
rose-coloured, depending on your
personal tastes. Pure gold, which is
24 carat, is often considered to be
too soft for jewellery and requires
much more care.
An ideal choice for wedding rings is
18ct, which is 75 percent pure gold
and has a richer hue than 9ct (which
is 37.5 percent pure gold). It also
tends to retain its good looks better
as it ages.
One thing to keep in mind
is that to keep
your white gold
wedding ring looking
beautiful, you’ll
need to have it
periodically
plated with
rhodium.
WHAT IS RHODIUM PLATING?
Rhodium, part of the platinum precious
metal group, is used to plate white
gold because it is dazzlingly white
and mirror-like, whereas white gold
can be slightly grey in tone. Rhodium
is shiny and cool, almost like chrome,
but even whiter. It also acts as a
protective coating for your ring,
enhancing its life span.
PLATINUM & PALLADIUM
Two popular choices for
wedding rings are platinum
and palladium, which don’t
require rhodium plating.
Their natural brilliance makes
them the perfect choice for
jewellery that lasts pretty much
forever. Recently, palladium has
become a popular alternative
to platinum because
of its similar colour
yet more budget
-friendly price tag.
engraving. We also offer the Worth
& Douglas Comfort Curve on most
of our rings – your wedding ring is
not just a symbol of your love, it
should love your skin too. The entire
inner surface of your Comfort Curve
wedding ring is gently contoured so
that less of the ring touches your skin.
The ring will slide easily onto your
finger to provide a secure and
extremely comfortable fit.
TITANIUM
Titanium rings have some unique
properties; they’re hypoallergenic,
lightweight, corrosion-resistant and
strong enough to keep their shape,
even when knocked about. For this
reason they’re a great choice for
those with active lifestyles who don’t
want to worry about wear and tear.
TENDER
LOVING CARE
Jewellery is precious and very often sentimental
too, so it pays to look after it properly. Here’s how
to keep yours looking its best.
Diamonds
Gold
Because diamonds can easily scratch other jewellery,
even other diamonds; the best single piece
of advice is to keep your diamond jewellery in a
fabric lined jewellery case with dividers.
Prevent damage by taking diamond jewellery off
when doing rough work like gardening.
Diamonds should be cleaned regularly as even
your natural skin oils can apply a film that cuts
down their brilliance. Visit your local jeweller
for advice on how best to do this. At the same
time, have them check for wear and tear on the
mounting.
Store gold jewellery carefully to
prevent scratching – a compartmentalised
jewellery box makes
this easy.
Take off your gold jewellery when bathing, showering
or washing up: soap tends to cause a film that can
make it appear dull and dingy.
Regularly clean your gold jewellery as perfume, fluoride
in water or even the acidity in your skin can
cause discolouration. See your local jeweller for
advice as softer gemstones in gold jewellery will need
some extra careful attention. Your local jeweller can
also professionally clean your jewellery.
Silver
Like most precious metals, in time silver will tarnish.
Cultured Pearls
Wipe your cultured pearls clean after every wear, especial-
ly in summer when perspiration can affect their lustre.
4
Simply clean with a mild soap and water solution
then pat dry with a soft cloth. If tarnish is stubborn,
try a silver cleaner. Just use a polishing cloth or fine
piece of felt to prevent scratches.
Avoid wearing silver jewellery in chlorinated water
and store somewhere sealed and dry.
After the use of silver cleaning products, it’s important
to rinse thoroughly, normally with hot water (being
mindful of any stones set in it, of course).
Most silver jewellery items may tarnish more often than
other jewellery items made of other precious metals
like gold and platinum. If this bothers you, ask your
jeweller about Rhodium plating, which can be a reliable
and low-cost solution.
Store cultured pearls separately to prevent scratching
– pop them soft cloth.
Avoid any bleach or detergents touching your cultured
pearls; this can cause damage and change the
colour and lustre.
Professional cultured pearl cleaning is especially recommended,
because extra care must be taken with
the surface of the cultured pearls and with the silk
thread used to string them.
Check the strand for weak points to prevent the loss
of any cultured pearls. Pearl stringing should be examined
every year and cultured pearl strands should
be checked by your local jeweller for advice.
