WHEN YOU’RE IN ITALY and someone wearing<br />

dark glasses informs you that ‘This is a family-run<br />

business’ you tend to sit up and listen to what they<br />

have to say. I half expected him to add the word<br />

‘Capice?’ at the end…<br />

Fortunately it’s not quite as sinister as it sounds.<br />

Beta have been owned by the same family since<br />

they started out in business 111 years ago. That’s<br />

some heritage right there; in terms of dirt bikes,<br />

only Husqvarna has more in the way of provenance.<br />

This however is not a history lesson, so<br />

let’s get straight on and tell you about the 2016<br />

enduro and trail models and what you will find.<br />

The big news for the 2016 model year is the<br />

introduction of an automatic oil injection system<br />

(that’s ‘autolube’ to you and me, squire) on all of<br />

the two-stroke models except the Racing version<br />

(due out in late September). Squirelled away under<br />

the seat is a small plastic oil tank at the bottom of<br />

which sits a tiny oil pump. This pump (controlled by<br />

the CDI which in turn is linked to a throttle position
