30-minutes in and we ere still running our
asses off, and by this time the sun was really
starting to burn. Sweat was pouring from all
of us and just when we thought the running
was over Johnny would scream - More, more
more, go, go ,go!!!
We were all managing but energy levels
were low by now, and we still had 30-min of
strength and conditioning styled training to do.
After what seemed like an endless amount
of running and sprinting, it was time to
partner up and hit the tractor tyres - literally.
Take a 15kg sledge hammer and smash
it against the tyre as hard as possible,
switching from right arm to left. After 10 reps
each arm it was time to flip the tyre 10 reps -
repeat this until half the length of the field had
been complete alternating between partners.
The burn in my ass, quads and thighs was
now full tilt and there was still the small matter
of pushing the scrum machine from one end
to the other to do. Push-ups and crunches
follwed that.
Just when we thought we had completed
the days training we were told to line up at
the corner of the field - it was time to sprint
the entire field and we had to do it under the
1 minute mark. We were all ready to dog pile
Johnny and shove our sweaty underwear in
his face - he was that unpopular. But, we all
dug deep and attached the sprint. Only 2
managed to go under the 1 minute mark -
Brent Harran and Michael White.
Just over an hour later and we were all
well and truly finished, cries of mercy being
shouted out all round. But what an amazing
day and no doubt we all took a good lesson
from this experience. I have always said that
to be a top bike racer it’s not all about talent,
you need that strong mentality that only
being really fit can give you. When you are
completely finished and have nothing left but
manage to dig deep and find that little bit extra
- that’s what will separate you from the rest.
Big thanks to Evolve Nutrition and Johnny
from Ultimate Fitness for making this happen.
