offering recreation swim, swim and dive lessons, adult water aerobics classes, private swim lessons,<br />

NOTE: Youth ages 6 and under must have direct parent/guardian<br />
supervision at all times when using the Foothills and Rose Lane<br />
Aquatic Centers as well as city splashpads. The parent/guardian must<br />
be in the water if the child is in the water, and must be within reach<br />
when on the pool deck. A wrist-band will be provided for patrons in this<br />
category. Children 7-8 must be accompanied by a responsible<br />
person (14 or older) who stays at the facility at all times. Children<br />
9 or older may utilize a facility without additional supervision.<br />
"Swim diapers" are required for children ages 3 and younger.<br />
NO FACILITY ENTRY WITHOUT PAID ADMISSION. NO<br />
FOOD/DRINKS/GUM/COOLERS OR GLASS ALLOWED IN<br />
AQUATICS FACILITIES. ONLY FACTORY SEALED BOTTLED<br />
WATER IS ALLOWED. Please do not bring a sick child, or<br />
child who has been sick in the last two weeks, to any<br />
Glendale aquatics facility. This compromises the safety<br />
and health for all patrons. Refunds WILL NOT be given due to<br />
unforeseeable circumstances; such as lightning, low visibility due to<br />
wind, rain or mechanical issues.<br />

Summer swim lessons are offered for all ages<br />
and levels. Lessons meet for eight 30-minute<br />
classes, Monday - Thursday at Foothills and<br />
Tuesday - Friday at Rose Lane. There will be<br />
NO lessons the week of July 4 - 8.<br />

When signing up, please specify the lesson or activity code.<br />
Glendale residents must provide approved proof of<br />
residency (such as a water bill) to receive resident rates.<br />
Please bring your receipt to the first day of lessons.<br />

Avoid the lines, register when it's convenient for you and<br />
save some gas! It's the easiest, fastest way to register! Non-residents will<br />
be able to register online after 8 a.m., May 19. Payments must be made<br />
by VISA, Master Card or American Express for online registrations. Online<br />
registration will remain open all summer.<br />

of registration for both Resident and Non-Resident.<br />

or Rose Lane Aquatics Center (starting June 4), 5003 W. Marlette<br />
Ave. (TU-SU 1-5 p.m.). Payment may be made with cash, check, VISA,<br />
Master Card or American Express.<br />

Be sure to read our cancellation policy below before registering!<br />
CANCELLATION/TRANSFER POLICY:<br />
• All class cancellation and transfer requests must be<br />
submitted at least 7 calendar days in advance of the class<br />
start date. NO EXCEPTIONS.<br />
• All class registrations are subject to a $5 cancellation fee<br />
per swim lesson per participant.<br />
• Refunds will not be given for classes that are missed.<br />
• Cancellation requests due to medical reasons that are not<br />
submitted 7 days in advance must provide documentation<br />
in order to receive a pro-rated refund.<br />
REFUND POLICY: (minus the $5 processing fee)<br />
• If a refund is less than $25, a credit will be applied to the<br />
registrant's household account and can be used for future<br />
classes or programs with Glendale Parks and Recreation.<br />
• Refunds $25 and over will be processed either by credit<br />
card or check depending on original payment method.<br />
PLEASE NOTE: The Rose Lane Aquatics Center is<br />
not only a great place to learn-to-swim, it is also<br />
a great place to cool off from the summer heat!<br />
Rose Lane is open to the public 6 days per week<br />
in the summer months for recreational swim hours,<br />
check page 2 for details!<br />

Swim Lesson Descriptions<br />
PARENT/CHILD* – Ages 6 months to 4 years. MUST be<br />
accompanied by an adult. Water acclimation class for<br />
young children with little or no water experience. Only 1<br />
child per adult. (Minimum six participants.)<br />
PRE-SCHOOL A* – Prerequisites: Ages 3-5 years. For<br />
children with little or no formal swimming experience<br />
who submerge reluctantly or not at all and require<br />
support when away from the wall. Participants must be<br />
able to hang on the wall by themselves. Adult does not<br />
participate in this level. (Minimum four participants.)<br />
(*Objectives for the above classes are: water safety knowledge<br />
and practices, aquatic adjustment and swimming readiness<br />
skills, fun, enjoyment in the water and participant socialization.<br />
Note: Children age 3 and under must wear swim diapers while<br />
in the pool. Pools sell swim diapers for $1.50 each.)<br />
PRE-SCHOOL B – Prerequisites: Ages 3-5 years. For children<br />
with some lesson experience and/or are very comfortable<br />
in the water. They submerge readily and demonstrate<br />
swimming readiness skills (i.e. Kicking, bobbing, back<br />
float,) with some support. (Minimum four participants.)<br />
STAGE 1 – Intro to Water Skills Prerequisites: Ages 4-6.<br />
Children ages 4 and 5 must have at least 1 session of<br />
swimming experience to enroll in Stage 1. Must be able<br />
to enter and exit the water safely, move along the wall 5<br />
yards, bob 5 times and float on back for 2 seconds…all<br />
with assistance. (Minimum five participants.)<br />
STAGE 2 – Fundamental Aquatic Skills Prerequisites:<br />
Ages 4 and older. Children ages 4 and 5 must have at<br />
least 2 sessions of swimming experience to enroll in this<br />
class. Must be able to do the following unassisted: enter<br />
water, move along wall 5 yards, bob 5 times and exit<br />
water. Must be able to glide on front, roll onto back and<br />
float for 3 seconds, then recover to a vertical position with<br />
little or no support. (Minimum six participants.)<br />
STAGE 3 – Stroke Development Prerequisites: Ages 5<br />
and older. Must be able to step from side into chest deep<br />
water, roll onto back and float 5 seconds then recover to<br />
a vertical position, push off wall and swim a combined<br />
stroke (arms and legs) for 5 body lengths, roll onto back<br />
and float for 15 seconds, roll over and continue swimming<br />
on front. (Minimum six participants.)<br />
STAGE 4 – Stroke Improvement Prerequisites: Ages 6<br />
and older. Must be able to jump into chest deep water,<br />
swim front crawl for 15 yards using rhythmic breathing,<br />
maintain position by treading or floating for 30 seconds,<br />
then elementary backstroke for 15 yards. (Minimum six<br />
participants.)<br />
STAGE 5 – Stroke Refinement Prerequisites: Ages 8 and<br />
older. Must be able to do a feet first entry into chest deep<br />
water, surface and swim front crawl 25 yards, change<br />
direction and position and swim elementary backstroke<br />
25 yards, swim breaststroke 15 yards, change direction<br />
and position and swim back crawl 25 yards. (Minimum six<br />
participants.)<br />
INTRODUCTION TO DIVING: Prerequisites: Ages 6 and<br />
older. Must be able to swim 25 yards, unassisted, to take<br />
class. For beginners interested in learning the proper<br />
fundamentals of diving (approach, hurdle, positions, and<br />
entry). (Minimum six participants.)<br />
INTRODUCTION TO STROKES (7 and younger): For<br />
aspiring (or previous) swim team members or participants<br />
interested in learning and improving the four competitive<br />
strokes –– backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle<br />
(crawl stroke). Must be able to swim 25 yards, unassisted,<br />
to take class.(Minimum six participants.)<br />
ADVANCED STROKES (8 and older): For aspiring (or<br />
previous) swim team members or participants interested<br />
in learning and improving the four competitive strokes<br />
–– backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle (crawl<br />
stroke). (Minimum six participants.)<br />
SWIM LESSON CLASS NOTICE:<br />
Classes will be cancelled the Friday prior to the start<br />
of class if minimum enrollment is not met.<br />
• The pool manager reserves the right to add, change,<br />
combine and omit classes as needed.<br />
• The pool manager reserves the right to place children<br />
in the appropriate stage.<br />
• Parents who register their children in the wrong<br />
stage will not be permitted to change classes if space<br />
is not available.<br />
• In the event lessons are cancelled due to weather<br />
or other uncontrollable circumstance, classes<br />
cannot be made up or refunded.<br />
• Class schedules are subject to change.<br />
• Classes will not be overbooked for safety reasons.<br />
• Parents MUST remain in the designated parent<br />
observation area during lessons, unless registered for a<br />
Parent/Child class ( This class requires parent<br />
participation in the water).<br />
• Swim diapers are mandatory for children 3 years and<br />
younger. Diapers are available from the Pool Cashier<br />
for $1.50 each at all sites.<br />
• Foothills has limited viewing areas for lessons. Seating for<br />
lesson viewing is available in the snack bar concession<br />
area and the bleachers on the south side of the pool area.<br />

Swim Lessons<br />
Private Lessons Schedules<br />
Private swim lessons are sold in packages of two<br />
30-minute classes and are available at both aquatic<br />
centers. No lessons the week of July 4 - 8.<br />
Time & Scheduling:<br />
Private lessons are 30 minutes in length and are<br />
scheduled with an experienced, certified swimming<br />
instructor. Lessons must be purchased in a package<br />
of two 30-minute lessons. Call 623-930-2838 for more<br />
details or if you are interested in signing up for private<br />
lessons. Private lesson openings will be automatically<br />
closed 7 days prior to the lesson beginning date for<br />
staffing purposes.<br />
Ages: 5 years old - Adult<br />
Price: Two 30-minute lessons $35 (Non-resident $42)<br />
How to register:<br />
1. Private lesson registration takes place according to<br />
the registration schedule on page 4. Register online,<br />
via phone or in person.<br />
2. Be sure that you can attend the lesson time, dates<br />
and location that you choose. Note the code of the<br />
time and location that you desire.<br />
3. All fees must be paid at the time of registration. When<br />
you register, you will be asked a series of questions<br />
about the participant’s swimming experience. This<br />
information will be passed along to the instructor<br />
prior to the lesson.<br />
4. Show up to your lesson location 5 minutes before<br />
the scheduled time.<br />
5. If you have questions, call the Aquatics Division at<br />

Refunds/Cancellations:<br />
See the refund/cancellation policy on page 4. Due<br />
to the large interest in private lessons and the limited<br />
availability, lessons cannot be rescheduled once<br />
booked. We are unable to reschedule missed classes.<br />
Please ensure that you are able to attend all lessons<br />
before registering.<br />

de 30 minutos, de lunes a jueves en Foothills y<br />
de martes a viernes en Rose Lane. No habrá<br />
clases la semana antes del 4 de julio - 8.<br />

POLÍTICA DE CANCELACIÓN / TRANSFERENCIA:<br />
• Todas las solicitudes de cancelaciones y transferencias<br />
deben ser enviadas con por lo menos 7 días naturales<br />
de anticipación a la fecha de inicio de la clase. SIN<br />
EXCEPCIONES.<br />
• Todas las inscripciones a clases están sujetas a un cargo<br />
por cancelación de $5 por clase de natación por<br />
participante.<br />
• No se darán reembolsos por clases a las que no asista.<br />
• Las solicitudes de cancelación debido a razones médicas<br />
que no sean enviadas con 7 días de anticipación<br />
deben proporcionar documentación para recibir un<br />
reembolso prorrateado.<br />
POLÍTICA DE REEMBOLSO:<br />
• Si un reembolso es por menos de $25, se aplicará un<br />
crédito a la cuenta del hogar del inscrito que podrá ser<br />
usado en programas o clases futuras de Parques y<br />
Recreación de Glendale.<br />
• Los reembolsos de $25 o más serán procesados<br />

Clases de Natación<br />

Descripción de las Clases de Natación<br />
PADRES/HIJOS* – Edades 6 meses a 4 años. DEBEN estar<br />
acompañados de un adulto. Clase de aclimatación al agua<br />
para los niños pequeños con poca o nula experiencia en el<br />
agua. Solo un niño/a por adulto. (Mínimo 6 participantes).<br />
PRESCOLAR A* – Prerrequisito: edades 3-5 años. Para niños<br />
con poca o nula experiencia en natación que se sumergen<br />
de mala gana o que no se sumergen y requieren de apoyo<br />
cuando están lejos de la pared. Los participantes deben poder<br />
sostenerse de la pared por si mismos. Los adultos no participan<br />
en este nivel. (Mínimo 4 participantes).<br />
(*Los objetivos de las clases de arriba son: prácticas y conocimientos<br />
de seguridad en el agua, ajuste acuático y habilidades de preparación<br />
para la natación, diversión, disfrute del agua y socialización del<br />
participante. Nota: los niños de 3 años o menos deben usar<br />
pañales de natación mientras se encuentren en la alberca.<br />
Se venden pañales de natación en las albercas a $1.50 cada uno).<br />
PRESCOLAR B – Prerrequisitos: edades 3-5 años. Para niños con<br />
alguna experiencia en clases y/o que están muy cómodos en el<br />
agua. Ellos se sumergen prontamente y demuestran habilidades<br />
de preparación para la natación (ejemplo, patear, menearse, flotar<br />
de espaldas), con algo de apoyo. (Mínimo 4 participantes).<br />
ETAPA 1 – Habilidades de Introducción al agua.<br />
Prerrequisitos: edades 4-6. Los niños en edades de<br />
4 a 5 años deben tener por lo menos 1 sesión de<br />
experiencia de natación para inscribirse en el etapa 1.<br />
Deben poder ingresar y salir del agua con seguridad y moverse<br />
alrededor de la barda 5 yardas, balancearse 5 veces y flotar<br />
sobre sus espaldas por 2 segundos…todo con asistencia.<br />
(Mínimo 5 participantes).<br />
ETAPA 2 – Habilidades Acuáticas Fundamentales.<br />
Prerrequisitos: Edades 4 y mayores. Los niños en edades de 4<br />
y 5 años deben tener por lo menos 2 sesiones de experiencia<br />
de natación para inscribirse en esta clase. Deben poder hacer<br />
todo lo siguiente sin asistencia: ingresar al agua, moverse<br />
5 yardas por la barda, balancearse 5 veces y salir del agua.<br />
Deben poder deslizarse al frente, dar vuelta de espaldas y<br />
flotar por 3 segundos, después recuperar la posición vertical<br />
con poco o mínimo apoyo. (Mínimo seis participantes).<br />
ETAPA 3 – Desarrollo de brazada. Prerrequisitos: edades 5<br />
en adelante. Deben poder ingresar de lado al agua que les llegue<br />
al pecho, ponerse de espaldas y flotar 5 segundos y después<br />
recuperar la posición vertical, empujase de la pared y nadar<br />
con brazada combinada (brazos y piernas) por una distancia<br />
de 5 cuerpos, ponerse de espaldas y flotar 15 segundos, darse<br />
la vuelta y seguir nadando de frente. (Mínimo 6 participantes).<br />
ETAPA 4 – Mejora de la brazada. Prerrequisitos: edades 6 y<br />
mayores. Deben poder saltar al agua que les llegará al pecho, nadar<br />
de crol por 15 yardas usando respiración rítmica, manteniendo la<br />
posición flotando o pisando por 30 segundos, después brazada<br />
elemental hacia atrás por 15 yardas. (Mínimo 6 participantes).<br />
ETAPA 5 – Refinamiento de la brazada. Prerrequisitos:<br />
edades 8 y mayores. Deben poder entrar con los pies primero en<br />
agua que les llegará al pecho, salir a la superficie y nadar de crol<br />
25 yardas, cambiar de dirección y de posición y nadar la brazada<br />
elemental hacia atrás 25 yardas, nadar 15 yardas de pecho, cambiar<br />
de dirección y posición y nadar de crol hacia atrás 25 yardas.<br />
(Mínimo 6 participantes).<br />
INTRODUCCIÓN AL BUCEO: Prerrequisitos: edades 6 y<br />
mayores. Debe poder nadar 25 yardas sin ayuda, para tomar<br />
la clase. Para los principiantes interesados en aprender los<br />
fundamentos adecuados del buceo (acercamiento, barrera,<br />
posiciones y entrada). (Mínimo 6 participantes).<br />
INTRODUCCIÓN A LAS BRAZADAS (7 y menores): Para<br />
miembros del equipo de nado aspirantes (o previos) o<br />
participantes interesados en aprender y mejorar las cuatro<br />
brazadas de competencia - nado hacia atrás, mariposa, pecho<br />
y crol. Deben poder nadar 25 yardas, sin ayuda, para tomar<br />
la clase. (Mínimo 6 participantes.)<br />
BRAZADAS AVANZADAS (8 años y mayores): para miembros<br />
del equipo de nado aspirantes o participantes interesados en<br />
aprender y mejorar las cuatro brazadas de competencia - nado<br />
hacia atrás, mariposa, pecho y crol. (Mínimo 6 participantes).<br />
AVISO SOBRE LAS CLASES DE NATACIÓN:<br />
Las clases se cancelarán si el viernes anterior<br />
al inicio de la clase no se ha cumplido con la<br />
inscripción mínima.<br />
• El gerente de la alberca se reserva el derecho de<br />
agregar, cambiar, combinar y omitir clases según sea<br />
necesario.<br />
• El gerente de la alberca se reserva el derecho a<br />
colocar a los niños en el etapa adecuado de clases.<br />
• Los padres que inscriban a sus hijos en el etapa<br />
equivocado de clases no tendrán permitido cambia<br />
de clases si no hay espacios disponibles.<br />
• En caso de que se cancelen clases debido al clima<br />
u otras circunstancias incontrolables, las clases no<br />
podrán reponerse o reembolsarse.<br />
• La programación de clases está sujeta a cambios.<br />
• No habrá sobrecupo en las clases por razones de<br />
seguridad.<br />
• Los padres deben permanecer en el área designada<br />
para observación durante las clases, a menos de que<br />
se hayan registrado para la clase padres/hijos. Esta<br />
clase requiere de la participación de los padres en el<br />
agua.<br />
• Los pañales para natación son obligatorios para niños<br />
de 3 años y menores. Hay pañales disponibles en la<br />
Caja de la Alberca con un costo de $1.50 cada uno<br />
en todos los sitios.<br />
• Foothills tiene áreas limitadas para ver. Los asientos<br />
para ver las clases están disponibles en el área de<br />
concesión de cafetería y las gradas en el lado sur del<br />

2016 is the 50th Anniversary of<br />
Glendale Aquatics!<br />
• Rose Lane was one of the first pools built in<br />
Glendale, being completed and dedicated in<br />
1966 by then Mayor Max Klass.<br />
• Rose Lane was rebuilt for its 40th Anniversary<br />
and was turned into a full waterpark in 2006. To<br />

• Since opening, Rose Lane has continually<br />
offered summer swim lessons to the community<br />
for all ages. Check out full swim lesson<br />

Junior Lifeguard<br />

If you are interested in becoming a lifeguard in the future and are<br />
age 11-15, these classes will expose you to a variety of guarding<br />
skills. Experiences may include assisting with swim lessons,<br />
lifeguard surveillance, special events, customer service skills,<br />
safety rules/regulations; and aquatic facility maintenance.<br />
Pool volunteer opportunities exist for Guardstart only after<br />
the class ends but are not mandatory. NOTE: Participants may<br />
only register for one level or class per summer. Once a class is<br />
completed the participant may register for the next level the<br />
following summer. Please choose level based on child's age.<br />

classes are in deep water. Participants must be comfortable in deep water with or without the use of an aqua-belt.<br />
Registration for all summer water aerobics begins May 16 for Glendale residents and May 19 for everyone.<br />
PLEASE NOTE: The Rose Lane Aquatics Center is a great place to cool off from the summer heat! Visit us after your workout.<br />
Rose Lane is open to the public 6 days per week in the summer months for recreational swim hours, check page 2 for details!<br />

Pool Use Guidelines<br />
. Obey instructions of lifeguards.<br />
. Youth ages 6 and under must have<br />
direct parent/guardian supervision at all<br />
times when using the aquatics center. The<br />
parent/guardian must be in the water if the<br />
child is in the water, and must be within<br />
reach when on the pool deck. A wristband<br />
will be provided for guests in this category<br />
at the aquatic entrance. A responsible<br />
person, 14 or older, must accompany<br />
children 7-8 years of age, who remains<br />
on the pool deck at all times. Children 9<br />
or older may utilize the pool area without<br />
additional supervision.<br />
. Swimsuits shall be suitable for public use<br />
in a family environment. The following are<br />
NOT appropriate swimsuits: sports bras,<br />
sports shorts, basketball shorts, cutoff<br />
jeans and underwear. Clean T-shirts<br />
may be worn over swimsuits for modesty,<br />
religious or medical reasons but first must<br />
be approved by the Pool Manager and<br />
may not interfere with the safety of<br />
the guests in the water.<br />
. Only approved US Coast Guard personal<br />
flotation devices may be used in the pool.<br />
. No "floaties", rafts, or other personally<br />
purchased items are allowed in the<br />
aquatics area. Please see above guideline<br />
for alternative.<br />
. Running, pushing, wrestling, dunking or<br />
riding on the shoulders of other guests is<br />
not allowed.<br />
. All guests must shower prior to entering<br />
the swimming pool.<br />
. NO outside food / beverages are<br />
allowed, except FACTORY SEALED water<br />
bottles. A concession stand is available,<br />
but food / beverages must remain in<br />
the concession area.<br />
. Guests with open wounds, sores, eye<br />
infections, colds, nasal or ear discharges,<br />
and skin or body infections shall be<br />
excluded from pool usage.<br />
. “Swim diapers” are required for all children<br />
age 3 and under. Swim diapers are available<br />
for $1.50 from the cashier.<br />
. Diaper changing is strictly prohibited on<br />
the pool deck. Please use restroom facilities.<br />
. Take regular bathroom breaks.<br />
. Children, ages 5 and older, are NOT allowed<br />
in bathrooms of the opposite gender. Family<br />
bathrooms are available as an alternative<br />
option.<br />
. Avoid drinking or swallowing pool water.<br />
. Diving is only allowed in water deeper<br />
than 9 feet.<br />
. Starting blocks are NOT to be used<br />
during recreational swimming. Blocks<br />
are only for use during designated<br />
swim team times while the swimmers<br />
are being supervised by a certified<br />
swim coach.<br />
. The weight limit for the diving boards is<br />
250 lbs. The weight limit for the slides is<br />
300 lbs, no "launching". The minimum<br />
height for the Foothills slide is 48"; for<br />
Rose Lane 42". For more pool rules for<br />
specialty areas (slides, lazy river and diving<br />
boards) please see the rules signs posted on<br />
the pool deck at each location.<br />
. The City of Glendale is not responsible for<br />
any lost or stolen personal items.<br />
. Day lockers are available at no charge.<br />
Guests are responsible for securing<br />
their valuables. Individuals must supply<br />
their own lock or may purchase a lock<br />
from the cashier.<br />
. Absolutely NO tobacco, e-cigarettes,<br />
alcohol, narcotics (drugs), or weapons of<br />
any kind are allowed anywhere within the<br />
facility. Anyone under the influence of drugs<br />
or alcohol will be removed from the facility.<br />
. No outside chairs allowed into the<br />
facility.<br />
. The pool deck is a "Gum Free Zone."<br />
. No glass containers of any kind allowed<br />
on the pool deck or in the pool area. This<br />
includes the locker rooms.<br />
. Personal Floatation Devices (PFD’s)<br />
are provided for use at the Lazy River.<br />
Participants under 42” tall may use the Lazy<br />
River by sitting on the lap of an individual<br />
16 years of age or older.<br />
. Water socks are highly recommended for<br />
individuals using the Water Playground<br />
area.<br />
. No pets allowed in the facility or on the<br />
pool deck. (Official service animals are the<br />
only exception.)<br />
. The lifeguard staff directly controls<br />
emergency evacuation plans. Any<br />
individuals on the pool deck will follow<br />
directions given by the lifeguard staff in<br />
the event of an emergency.<br />
. The lifeguard staff run safety drills<br />
throughout the summer recreation swim<br />
season. During drills, patrons will follow<br />
the directions provided by aquatics staff.<br />
. Lap Swimming: Individuals must be at<br />
least 13 years of age to participate. All<br />
individuals must be capable of swimming<br />
25 yards continuously to qualify for lap<br />
swimming. Lap swimming is not open to<br />
those under 13. (The diving well is not<br />
available during lap swim.)<br />
. Guests who are ill with diarrhea or<br />
vomiting may not enter the facility. All<br />
guests must be free from symptoms for 14<br />
days prior to returning to a City of Glendale<br />
swimming pool.<br />
Managers reserve the right to make additional rules if needed for the safety of guests.<br />
Please refer to the City of Glendale Code of Conduct for further clarification.<br />
All events at City of Glendale facilities are public, and participants may be<br />
photographed by the media and/or City staff for future print and/or online publication.<br />
