By: Rodrigo Patiño Head of the English department Internet specially for researching purposes , is in English?. ,Do you know that your English level can affect your ability to get a job? Or even receive a better salary?, Do you know that if you want to apply in order to study in a foreign country or do a master degree or PHD, in Colombia you need to demonstrate a B2 plus level of English? B eing part of science, Physics is a very important component of the International Program followed by the students at Liceo de Colombia . From transition to 11th grade, it is evaluated not only at the end of the process but during the process itself in 5th and 8th grades. Based on the above, students should start the International curriculum of Science in Transition which includes Physics and the other two main components of the area: Biology and Chemistry. This explains why our students learn very early on in their process some Science topics which are usually studied later according to the national standards. The checkpoints in 5th grade and 8th grade are very useful for us to determine how students are achieving and to confirm they are ready to start the IGCSE program in 9th grade. By Oscar Correa Barbosa. With that said, each area should be represented in the IGCSE program to be taken by our students, only two Science components would be part of the seven subject to be evaluated at the end of the process, and one of them is Physics. In this way, our students will take advantage of their strong Science academic process started in transition in order to anticipate a successful outcome. One special concern was always shared with the British Council every time they came to the school in order to follow up the implementation of the international program was our facilities or laboratories at the school. This year we are very confident that the new, wonderful and up to date laboratories will help us to develop even better classes, perform some experiments which are always advisable in the science area and, undoubtedly get better results within the next few months. By Oscar Correa Barbosa. Here at Liceo de Colombia bilingual English as a second Language is one of the most important subjects, as it will make students much more competitive but also will support all our bilingualism process in subjects such as: ICT, Physics, Science, Biology, Social Studies, Physical Education, and Global Perspectives. Based on the International curriculum, the processes starts in transition and finishes in eighth grade, but we are going beyond this because our kindergarten students are already integrated into the process. Likewise, from ninth to tenth students are prepared and present the IGCSE English exam as part of the International program. Based on the importance English has during the whole Academic process, students evidence their proficiency in English while presenting starters in first grade, Movers in third grade, KET in sixth grade, PET in ninth and IELTS in eleventh grade. To conclude, English is more than a subject but a way of learning a culture in order for our students to become part of a new world without borders. 4 • Revista News for Thinkers Revista News for Thinkers • 5
