know <strong>the</strong>ir neighbors. It should tell us something that in healthy societies<br />
drug use is celebrative, honored, and occasional, whereas among us it is<br />
lonely, shameful, and addictive. We have found ourselves using drugs of all<br />
sorts, apparently, because we have lost each o<strong>the</strong>r.”<br />
