The State of <strong>Female</strong> <strong>Infanticide</strong> in Himachal Pradesh<br />
to extend financial incentives to girl child belonging to BPL families. As per the<br />
gazette notification, this scheme has replaced the Indira Gandhi Balika Samriddhi<br />
Yojna. The features of the Beti Hai Anmol Yojana are stated as under: 57<br />
A. Objectives of the scheme<br />
i. Change the negative attitudes of the family and the society towards<br />
women<br />
ii. End marriage of girl child<br />
iii. Encourage admission of girls to school and continuation of their<br />
education<br />
iv. Help girls to pursue an income generation activity<br />
v. Empowering girls and making them self-reliant<br />
B. Targeted beneficiaries<br />
Girl child (maximum two in a family) belonging to BPL families<br />
C. Benefits under the scheme<br />
i. After birth of eligible beneficiary, Himachal Pradesh State Govt to deposit<br />
an amount of Rs.5100 in a fixed deposit account for 18 years in the name<br />
of the beneficiary. Vide gazette notification dated 2 June 2012, Rs.5100<br />
has been increased to Rs.10,000.<br />
ii. Eligible beneficiary to get scholarship annually as under:<br />
a. Class I to III - Rs.300<br />
b. Class IV – Rs.500<br />
c. Class V – Rs.600<br />
d. Class VI and VII – Rs.700<br />
e. Class VIII – Rs.800<br />
f. Class IX and X – Rs.1000<br />
g. Class XI and XII – Rs.1500<br />
