Paul Federici<br />

Director of Football Operations<br />

13th Year at Iowa<br />

Paul Federici is in his 13th season working<br />

with the University of Iowa football <strong>program</strong>.<br />

Federici is in his eighth year as director of<br />

football operations after serving as director of<br />

athletic training services for five years.<br />

Federici coordinates many of the off the field<br />

logistics, as well as practice schedules and<br />

other football related items, for Head Coach Kirk Ferentz and the<br />

Hawkeye football <strong>program</strong>.<br />

The Hawkeyes posted a perfect 12-0 regular season record in<br />

2015, winning the West Division of the Big Ten Conference. Iowa<br />

participated in the 2016 Rose Bowl following a last-minute loss to<br />

Michigan State (16-13) in the Big Ten championship game and ended<br />

the season in the top 10 in the national rankings.<br />

Iowa has participated in January bowl games the past three<br />

seasons, including the 2014 Outback Bowl, the 2015 TaxSlayer Bowl<br />

and the 2016 Rose Bowl. The Hawkeyes have ranked in the final top<br />

10 of both major polls five times in the past 14 seasons.<br />

Iowa has appeared in nine January bowl games since 2001. The<br />

Hawkeyes have won six bowl games under Kirk Ferentz and his staff,<br />

including four January bowl victories. The January Bowl wins have<br />

come over Florida (2004 Outback), LSU (2005 Capital One), South<br />

Carolina (2009 Outback) and Georgia Tech (2010 Orange).<br />

Iowa has won 116 games over the past 14 seasons, including 69<br />

Big Ten games. The Hawkeyes earned a share of the Big Ten title<br />

in both 2002 and 2004, tied for second in 2009 and won the West<br />

Division in 2015. Iowa has finished in the Big Ten’s first division in 13<br />

of the past 15 years.<br />

In his first season as director of football operations, Federici<br />

assisted with the planning, coordination and implementation of<br />

Iowa’s daily operation and travel plans as the Hawkeyes concluded<br />

the 2009 season with a 24-14 win in the 2010 FedEx Orange Bowl and<br />

a national ranking of seventh in the nation.<br />

Federici has assisted in 11 bowl games during his career, including<br />

the 2001 Senior Bowl, 2005 Capital One Bowl, 2006 Outback Bowl,<br />

2006 Alamo Bowl, 2009 Outback Bowl, 2010 Orange Bowl, both<br />

the 2010 and 2011 Insight bowls, the 2014 Outback Bowl, the 2015<br />

TaxSlayer Bowl, and the 2016 Rose Bowl.<br />

Federici also served as a championship team operations<br />

liaison at the 2015 and 2016 college football playoff national<br />

championship games.<br />

Federici joined the Iowa Athletic Department staff in 2004 after<br />

serving as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Seattle Seahawks for five<br />

seasons. Prior to joining the Seahawks in January, 1999, Federici was<br />

the Head Athletic Trainer at Vanderbilt University from 1994-99.<br />

As an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Vanderbilt from 1987-1993,<br />

Federici worked with football, baseball, men’s basketball and<br />

men’s and women’s golf teams. He was named Head Athletic<br />

Trainer for the Commodores in 1994, and was recognized as the<br />

College Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Tennessee Athletic<br />

Trainers Society that year.<br />

Certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association in 1985,<br />

Federici served as a test site administrator and host athletic trainer<br />

for the N.A.T.A. Board of Certification examinations from 1991-95. He<br />

has volunteered for the Tennessee State Amateur Games, the LPGA<br />

Sara Lee Tournament at Hermitage Golf Club, and the Senior PGA<br />

Bell South Tournament at Springhouse Golf Club. Federici was a case<br />

study presenter at the 2001 A.O.S.S.M. meeting in Phoenix, Ariz., as<br />

well as the 2002 N.A.T.A. June Symposium in Dallas, Texas.<br />

OPERATIONS STAFF<br />

While at Vanderbilt, Federici served on several athletic department<br />

committees, including the Mission/Vision planning team, the External<br />

Communications Committee, the Management Team of Department<br />

Heads and the Sports Nutrition Planning Team.<br />

Federici earned his B.S. degree in Health Education from Penn State<br />

University in 1985 and his M.Ed. in Health Promotion/Education from<br />

Vanderbilt in 1991.<br />

Federici was born in Findlay, Ohio, and grew up in Oakmont,<br />

Pennsylvania. He and his wife, Teddie, have a son, Noah.<br />

Ben Hansen<br />

Assistant Director of Football Operations<br />

Fourth Year at Iowa<br />

Ben Hansen is in his fourth year as assistant<br />

director of football operations at the University<br />

of Iowa. Hansen previously worked with the<br />

Iowa defensive line as a student assistant<br />

(2009-2011).<br />

The Hawkeyes posted a perfect 12-0 regular<br />

Hansen served on the 2016 Rose Bowl Advisory Committee as the<br />

Hawkeyes were selected to play in the Rose Bowl following the Big<br />

Ten title game.<br />

Prior to rejoining the Iowa <strong>program</strong>, Hansen served as a graduate<br />

teaching assistant while working towards his master’s degree at the<br />

University of Tennessee. He served as a board member for Partners In<br />

Sports while earning his master’s degree in sport management from<br />

Tennessee in 2013.<br />

Hansen also served as an intern at Stanford University with facilities,<br />

operations and event management within the Cardinal Athletic<br />

Department.<br />

In his previous stint with the Iowa football <strong>program</strong>, Hansen worked<br />

with the defensive line in 2009 and 2010, as the Hawkeyes compiled<br />

a two-year record of 19-7. Iowa won the Orange Bowl following the<br />

2009 season and the Insight Bowl following the 2010 campaign,<br />

defeating a ranked opponent in both contests.<br />

Hansen also served as a youth basketball and football coach<br />

through the Mercer Aquatic Center in Iowa City. He earned his<br />

bachelor’s degree in recreation management from Iowa in 2010.<br />

Hansen is a native of Hampton, Iowa, and graduated from<br />

Hampton-Dumont High School. As a prep he lettered in football,<br />

basketball and track.<br />

Hansen was born Feb. 5, 1988, in Marshalltown, Iowa. His wife’s<br />

name is Emily.<br />
