DAVID SMITH, PH. D.<br />

David Smith has been an educator for forty years. From 1979 to 1981 he taught<br />

English at Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska. From 1981 to 1998 David taught<br />

English at Southern Adventist University, serving as English Department Chair during<br />

most <strong>of</strong> that time as well as earning his doctorate from the University <strong>of</strong> Tennessee.<br />

In 1998 David left Southern to serve as President <strong>of</strong> Union College. Since 2011, Dr.<br />

Smith has been the senior pastor <strong>of</strong> the Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist church<br />

and is the newly elected president <strong>of</strong> Southern Adventist University. David enjoys<br />

public speaking and has presented on a variety <strong>of</strong> topics to audiences worldwide.<br />

JOHN S. NIXON SR., D. MIN.<br />

John S. Nixon is pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> theology and spirituality in the School <strong>of</strong> Religion at<br />

Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tennessee. Before joining the faculty at<br />

Southern, John served for 34-years in pastoral ministry. He served congregations in New<br />

York City, Los Angeles, and Washington DC, among others. He also served as senior<br />

pastor on three Adventist university campuses. While on the west coast, John served as<br />

Vice President in the Southern California Conference.<br />

MUSICAL ARTISTS<br />

THE KING’S HERALDS QUARTET<br />

Founded in Keene, Texas, in 1927 by four young college students,<br />

the group has come to be recognized world-wide for their blend and<br />

musical expertise. Members include Don Scroggs, Jared Otto, Russell<br />

Hospedales, and Jeff Pearles.<br />

I CANTORI<br />

The premiere choral ensemble within the School<br />

<strong>of</strong> Music at SAU. The members <strong>of</strong> I Cantori sing<br />

with the understanding that great music has the<br />

power to elevate and inspire both its listeners and<br />

participants to love and serve the Creator.<br />
