Gifts of Jams, Jellies, Preserves and Spreads House of Webster preserves are all made from the highest quality ingredients, starting with the fruits that are selected by our scouts around the world; they are constantly searching for the best crops from growers who have been carefully chosen for the superiority of their fruit varieties, as well as their willingness to harvest their produce at the peak of ripeness. By using the old recipies created in the early days of the House of Webster as well as developing new ones using the traditional “small batch” methods that make our preserves a superior product, we keep the tradition alive. So what is the difference between Preserves, Jams, Jellies, Spreads and Butters? Preserves are made using the whole fruit: they are wholesome and chunky. Jams are made from pureed fruit: they have a smoother texture and come in interesting flavor combinations. Jellies are made from fruit juice, they are smooth and spreadable. Spreads are made from a combination of whole fruit and pureed fruit, sweetened with fruit juice. They are an “only fruit” treat. Marmalade is made from citrus fruit juice and prepared like a jam, using the zest for flavor and texture.
