Hot Springs natives, Clyde
“Sug” and Kathleen Wilson
just celebrated their 67 wedding
anniversary in April 2016. Sug
is a well know Arkansas’ golfer
and Kathleen was an original
founder and sat on the Board of
the Jackson House for 25 years.
“Sug” played basketball at the
University of Arkansas 1946-
1947, and then played baseball
as catcher on the White Sock’s
Farm Team in 1947 to 1948. He
was the USGA Senior Amateur
8 times and estimates he won
about 80 tournaments. He
won the Arkansas Stroke Play
Tournament on the Hot Springs
Country Club Arlington Golf
Course in 1969, and was the first
player to win the tournament
under par and at the age of 40.
He won the Arkansas Senior
Match Play 3 times and won the Arkansas Senior Stroke Play 4
times. He traveled the country with the Arkansas Golf Cup Team. In
1996, he qualified to represent the United States in the Men’s Senior
Amateur Golf Tournament and played at Carnustie in Scotland,
which is just north of St. Andrews. In 2003, he became an Arkansas
Golfing Legend when he was inducted into the Arkansas Golf Hall of
Fame. Folks that’s a lot of Golf!
They are the parents of Mindy Wilson Crone and Izzy, a Border
Collie, and Clyde”Butch”Wilson of Hot Springs. They are
Grandparents to Kirby Crone and Great Grandparents of Kason.
They are a credit to the Hot Springs community and represent some
of Arkansas’ finest Seniors.
