OUR STUDIO
MALA is one of Australia’s fastest emerging
Landscape Architecture and Urban Design
practices.
We provide high-end design and project
management services across all sectors and scales.
The studio places a strong emphasis on creating
site specific designs founded on a process of
strategic investigation and site analysis.
For us Landscape Architecture is ultimately about
finding synergies between the environment,
community, culture and history. We believe good
design should be simple in form even when
responding to complex site constraints and issues.

MALA is committed to providing the highest

management services. Our team can manage and
coordinate multi-discipline consultant teams,
facilitate community and stakeholder consultation,
navigate complex political environments and
deliver large scale projects on time and on budget.
Our studio offers design services acros s all project

Consultation, Concept Design, Schematic Design,
Developed Design, Documentation, Tender and
Construction Services and Contract Administration.
MALA maintains a large cross section of Public,

team can service projects ranging from the micro

CAMPBELL MORRIS
B.LArch, RMIT University
Registered Landscape Architect AILA
Campbell is the founding director of MALA and leads the
design and management of all projects undertaken by the
studio. Under Campbell’s leadership the studio has quickly
developed a large cross section of work across the public,
private, institutional and commercial sectors.

Prior to establishing MALA Campbell worked for ten years
at Talyor Cullity Lethlean (TCL) an award winning and
internationally recognised Landscape Architecture and
Urban Design firm. During his time at TCL Campbell worked
on and led many award winning projects across all sectors
for clients such as Places Victoria, The City of Melbourne,
Parks Victoria, Vic Roads, Zoos Victoria The Royal Botanic
Gardens, ACT Government, City of Manly and Waterfront
Auckland.
Campbell also spent three years in local government
working for the City of Boroondara. During this time
Campbell managed the Urban and Civic Design Portfolio
and oversaw the design and implementation of the
Camberwell Fresh Food Market Public Realm, the Hawthorn
Arts Centre Civic Space, the Glenferrie Underpass Project
and the Burwood Village Shopping Centre.
Campbell also managed the Shopping Centre Improvement
Plan and the Camberwell Laneways Strategy.
Campbell completed his Bachelor of Landscape
Architecture at RMIT University where he received the Award
for Outstanding Achievement and Excellence for his final
project. Campbell maintains an active role the discourse of
Landscape Architecture teaching, lecturing and mentoring
the next generation designers at RMIT and Melbourne
University.

JOE MORGAN- PAYLER

Joe is Registered Landscape Architect with over 12 years’
experience. During this time, he has had the opportunity to
work on a wide variety of projects at a broad range of scales
throughout Australia and overseas. He has developed a strong
commitment to innovative design, and creative built outcomes.

In 2007 he joined Taylor Cullity Lethlean (TCL), after graduating
from Landscape Architecture programme at RMIT with
honours, and completing Bonsai study in Japan. Prior to this he

OUR WORK
MASTERPLANS & STRATEGIES
Our team has worked on some of Australia’s most
high profile and complex masterplans and framework
projects in the last decade. Director Campbell Morris
leads the design and management of all masterplan
projects undertaken by the studio. Campbell has in-depth
experience having led design teams on masterplans such
as Burnie Waterfront, Point Nepean National Park and
Dandenong Revitalisation.
MALA has recently undertaken masterplan and strategic
framework projects for Development Victoria, Hobsons
Bay City Council, Kingston City Council and the AFL.
Each of these projects demonstrates our ability to
facilitate meaningful client, community and stakeholder
consultation, collect and analysis feedback and manifest
meaningful and design responses.

OUR WORK
PARKS & GARDENS
MALA are a proud Melbourne practice…we are a product
of the garden state. We celebrate our city’s rich history of
parks and gardens. As a Landscape Architecture studio we
are honoured to have designed to some of Melbourne’s
most recent public open spaces.
We have recently design parks and gardens for
Development Victoria, the City of Melbourne, the City of
Boroondara and Hobsons Bay City Council. Some of our
recent projects include recreational parks, cultural and
event hubs, play and exercise parks, and display gardens.

Feature Project- Docklands City Park
Location: Docklands Melbourne
Client: Development Victoria
Construction Budget: $2m
Size: 6000sqm
The project aims to transform the site into a new
recreational and cultural hub and will provide a
permanent home for the relocated 2015 MPavilion.
The project will create a new sport fitness park including
outdoor exercise equipment, ping pong tables and multi
purpose spaces for outdoor yoga, dance, aerobics and
personal training classes.
In addition to this the design will enhance the green park
and cater for quite garden spaces to meet, sit, eat, read
and relax.
Iconic Docklands materials such as concrete, steel and
timber are counterbalanced with generous lawns and
gardens to invite the visitor to sit, eat, read, play and
socialise amongst the hustle and bustle of city.
Stage One of the project was officially opened to
the public in August 2016. Stage 2 is currently under
construction and scheduled for completion in June 2017.

STREETSCAPES & CIVIC SPACES
MALA believe urban design underpins the way we as a
modern society live on a day to day basis. For those of us
living in the built environment urban design influences
the way we walk, run, ride, drive, work, socialise, exercise,
play and rest.
Collaboration between multiple disciplines is required
in order for urban design to be truly successful. To this
end MALA provides expert project management and
leadership services for streetscape and civic projects. Our
team has in depth experience working on high profile
urban revitalisation projects such as Lonsdale Street
Dandenong, Elizabeth Quay and Auckland Waterfront.
MALA has recently carried out streetscape projects the
City of Boroondara and Hobsons Bay City Council.

OUR WORK
INFRASTRUCTURE
MALA provide expert services on the design
and documentation of functional infrastructure
such as bridges, pedestrian and bicycle
carriageways, boardwalks, sound walls,
shelters, sculptural and artistic elements. We
have staff formally trained in architecture
which allows us to seamless knit structural
infrastructure elements with traditional
landscape context.
Our team has extensive infrastructure
experience working on projects such as
Craigieburn Bypass and the Brisbane Airport
Link. Most recently MALA developed concept
design schemes for Barangrook Creek Bridge
for VicRoads and the Colac Otway Shire.

OUR WORK
RESIDENTIAL
MALA began its journey in residential landscape
architecture and we still love the discipline. Often teaming
up with Architects on larger scale developments we love
collaborating to create evocative and enriching home
gardens for our clients. Residential landscape architecture
frees us up from the constraints of working in the public
sector. With this freedom we have recently developed
some exciting and unique designs for the DHHS,
Assemble Projects, Icon, Milieu Projects and Cobild.
