Diabetes Complications: Heart and Blood Vessels<br />
Diabetes can affect the heart and blood vessels by accelerating the process of thickening and hardening of arteries, which can block<br />
the circulation of certain body parts such as the heart, lower limbs and the brain, this is known as arteriosclerosis.<br />
Dangers of Arteriosclerosis:<br />
If the heart is affected, myocardial infraction can result;<br />
If the brain is affected, a stroke can result;<br />
If the lower limbs are affected, pain when walking can result.<br />
How to Know if Your Heart & Blood Vessels Have Been<br />

Diabetes:<br />
Slow healing wounds;<br />
How to Prevent Damage to Your Heart & Blood Vessels:<br />

Keep blood glucose levels as close to normal as possible;<br />
Check blood pressure regularly and treat high blood pressure<br />
aggressively;<br />
<br />
Chest pain or difficulty breathing during physical exertion;<br />
<br />
Avoid saturated fats as much as possible;<br />
<br />
<br />
Pain in the calves when walking.<br />
Sometimes arteriosclerosis has little / no symptoms in its<br />
early stages.<br />

<br />
Have blood lipid levels checked regularly and treat any<br />
anomalies aggressively; and<br />
Quit smoking.<br />
