“Being a young Indigenous person, I strongly believe that
culture and identity are imperative for us to grow and develop
as healthy young people.
I grew up when we were told that we Indigenous people
wouldn’t become much. I could have easily gone two ways. I
could have thrown my hands up and said yeah they are right,
I’m not going to go very far…
I’m proud to say that I was stronger than that. I had a sense of
culture, I had a family that supported me. I want there to be a
lot more Indigenous people in the future standing up and
saying I’m capable and I can go places – because we can.”
