Spiritual Stuff To Do When
You Feel Too Busy
7
tips to help you slow down
the pace of a very hectic life:
1Be singularly focused. With
everything, be focused. Instead
of being in a stressful taskswitching
state of mind, take your
next task, let everything else go,
and just be in the moment with
this one task. Just be 100% in this
one task, like it’s your entire world.
2Allow yourself to slow down.
Breathe. (results are more
important than the time it takes to
achieve them.)
3Let go of controlling what can’t
be controlled. Don’t try to rule
the Universe, there is a creator for
that. Recite the serenity prayer
when you feel like you are slipping
into control mode. God, grant me
the serenity to accept the things I
cannot change, courage to change
the things I can, And wisdom to
know the difference.
4Take a walk (outside). When
things are getting really
stressful, take 5-10 minutes to
take a walk and clear your mind.
It gives you something new to
focus on and might get your heart
rate up.At least once per day,
consider taking a break from work
and go for a short, peaceful walk
(in a park or green space if there’s
one nearby). This is not goofingoff,
it’s likely to have a restorative
effect on your mind.
5Do some short mindfulness.
Why meditate for 30 minutes?
Try this, to get the benefits of
mindfulness?…We all gotta start
somewhere, right??
• Try a body scan (focus on your
body and notice how every
part of it feels right now) in 30
seconds.
• Pay attention to the simple
sound of your breath for 60
seconds (listen to it and feel it).
• Go walk mindfully, paying
attention to clearing your
mind as you walk.
6Track what’s going well and
give thanks. You will have a
hard time ever being happy if you
aren’t thankful for the good things
in your life right now. So give
yourself some much needed credit.
Here’s a super simple, five-minute,
daily gratitude exercise that works:
Every evening before you go to
bed, write down three things that
went well during the day and their
causes. Simply provide a short,
causal explanation for each good
thing. This process is also referred
to as a gratitude journal.
7Move your body. When all else
fails, and your stress levels
are mounting, use your body to
sooth your mind. So try this: stand
up straight and put a big smile
on your face. Take some deep,
strong breaths and stretch your
arms into the air. Notice how you
feel better?Bottom line: Take the
vehicle your creator has given you
and use it! Your body is the best
tool for changing your attitude
and relieving stress in an instant.
