WHERE YOU FROM, HOW OLD?
KYLE: Guelph, Ontario. Just turned 29
How did you get into Wake?
KYLE: My family when we grew up, we had a cottage
about four hours north of lake Toronto so in the
summertime I’d go up all summer long so I grew up
tubing and kneeboarding and water skiing and one
day my dad rented me a wakeboard from this shop
in town and ever since that day I never went back
to skiing. I started wakeboarding with my family
at the cottage I started taking lessons and went
to a couple wakeboard camps and sort of one thing
led to another and ended up taking a year off
of school between high school and university and
ended up moving down to Florida to kind of wakeboard
for a year. I met the guys at O town and I
met the guys at the boarding school and kind of
the rest was history.
Was there some moment when you decided
you were going to try to go pro?
KYLE: The first time when I really thought I’d
try to make a go of it was Travis Moye and Shaun
Murray approached me from the boarding school
and offered me a job there I could work at the
camp and live on my own and ride and train and I
had a few sponsors. It was kind of what gave me
that opportunity for me to have time to coach and
have time to train on my own and that was when I
was like ok I’m going to try to stay down here
for a little bit and give this a shot and see
what happens. I was 19 at that time and I’m still
fighting the fight today.
If you could be in any summer
Olympic event which would that be?
KYLE: I really like basketball I wish I was
taller and could play basketball.
Coolest place you’ve ever been?
KYLE: Bacalar Mexico. It’s like a four hour drive
from Cancun deep in the heart of Mexico. Me and
J.D. actually went there for the Al Sur movie
we had no idea where we’re going. It was super
sketchy driving on the road for like four hours
way in over our heads and we showed up in the
middle of the night, no idea what it looked like.
When we woke up it was this lake in the middle of
no where, there isn’t one other boat on the lake
and it’s 50 miles of 100 feet deep and crystal
clear water. It was the sickest place ever.
If you had to get a tattoo of any
Byerly team guy on your ass, who
would that be?
KYLE: That’s kind of a disrespectful place to
get a tattoo and I really don’t think the person
would think it was funny, but it’d have to be
George. He’d probably get a kick out of it cause
he’d think it was funny. He’d be honored, maybe?
What fad really pisses you off?
KYLE: People wearing board shorts as shorts. Like
if you see people walking in the mall wearing
board shorts with socks and shoes and a button up
shirt I’m not into that. It just really irks me.
