Who is 

Hybrid-Ag? 

Hybrid-Ag was 

established in Melbourne 

in 2002 with the sole focus 

of supplying the 

agricultural market with 

high quality prescription 

blended soil and plant 

nutrient solutions. At that 

time a market was 

emerging that was 

demanding higher quality 

and higher profitability at 

lower prices. Through 

careful analysis of the soil 

and plants and applying 

the relevant nutrients in a 

buffered and balanced 

manner, the results 

required began to speak 

for themselves. 

As the name ‘Hybrid’ 

(combination) & ‘Ag' 

(agriculture) suggests, the 

best knowledge, products 

and agricultural practice 

available from all areas of 

the industry were 

extensively researched 

and combined to develop 

a very unique approach 

that guarantees 

‘Sustainable Solutions’ for 

today and responsible 

outcomes for the next 

generation. 

As demand for our 

services rapidly grew, a 

decision was made to 

move the premises to 

Wangaratta, North East 

Victoria. Strategically 

situated on the Hume 

Highway our 

manufacturing plant has 

been meticulously set up 

to produce the highest 

quality product on time, 

every time. 

After being approached by 

a world class golf course 

in 2011 to recommend 

and manufacturer a 

unique custom fertiliser, 

Hybrid-Ag recognised the 

significant need in the turf 

industry for a change in 

soil amendments and 

fertiliser practises. Now a 

dedicated division of the 

company, ‘Sustainable 

Turf Solutions’ is 

providing a new insight 

into turf & soil health for 

greens keepers, curators 

and golf course 

superintendents.

control over the entire 

supply chain, from 

sourcing raw materials 

through to manufacturing, 

packaging and supply. We

heavy delivery vehicles,

we use an independent 

soil and tissue testing 

service which gives us 

genuinely comprehensive 

test data presented in a 

format that is very easy to 

read and understand. This 

test includes a number of 

parameters not included 

in other tests. You cannot 

make the best decisions 

for your turf health 

without having the best 

soil and plant analysis. 

If you already have recent 

tests from another 

laboratory, we can take 

that data and process it in 

our Audit program and 

prepare an exact

Leaf Testing 

Hybrid Ag has an 

arrangement, through 

Spectrum Analytical Pty. 

Ltd., with a major 

certified independent 

Australian soil 

laboratory, giving our 

clients access to 

genuinely comprehensive 

soil and tissue tests that 

are set out in extremely 

easy to read and 

understand graph form. 

The test includes a 

number of parameters 

that are simply not 

included in other soil 

tests. While some other 

tests may include some 

of the features, this one 

‘pulls them all together’. 

With fertilizers being 

applied based on test 

data, it is critical that the 

data is accurate, 

complete and correctly 

interpreted. 

Spectrum Analytical 

provide, as part of the 

program, a simple but 

comprehensive summary 

of the soil test data. This 

is clear information that 

anyone can easily read 

and understand and 

includes a list of all the 

elements that are in 

excess; those that are 

deficient; a general 

summary; a fertility 

status guide, as well as 

the amount of every 

element, shown in kg/ha, 

that needs to be applied 

to that particular soil to 

bring it into true balance. 

This complete analysis 

gives you the information 

you need to make truly 

informed decisions 

regarding what inputs 

your soil really needs to 

achieve high fertility 

status and to start to 

deliver the results you 

want and need. 

Spectrum also includes a 

unique soil solution test 

as a separate analysis 

from the main test. This 

soil is saturated in water 

and then the water is 

extracted and tested for 

nutrient lode. This is like 

a ‘second soil test’ for 

free as a check, and is 

useful to analyse along 

with the tissue test data 

for nutrients easily 

available to the plants.

Humax-50 

This unique material is the base product used in our 

prescription blends. 

Humax-50 is a concentrated, high-carbon, compost-type 

material made using a custom mix of carefully selected high 

carbon materials of varying densities, including brown coal 

and paramagnetic materials, in an accurately controlled 

activation process. Brown coal contains up to 40% humic 

acid, a broad range of trace minerals and holds many times 

its own weight in water. 

Mixed into the product during the activation period is a 

large inoculation of specifically selected microorganisms 

along with a massive spectrum of microbe food sources. 

This creates a chain reaction of microbial growth that is 

sustained at ideal levels for many weeks. Unlike 

conventional composts that include animal wastes, the 

process never ‘overcooks’ at excessive temperatures 

because of the stabilizing effect of the carbons and so 

maintains the immense beneficial fungal and bacterial 

populations. 

Suggested Application Rates:

Humax Fertiliser Blends 

When used as the base of a Prescription Dry Blended 

fertiliser, Humax-50 works like a big ’sponge’ with the 

active carbons soaking up the nutrients that we have added 

to exactly suit a soil we have tested. This process 

dramatically alters the release patterns of the soluble 

nutrients, mimicking the natural process of nutrient 

delivery. This carbon bonding makes the added nutrients 

far more efficient and reduces any issues associated with 

losses due to leaching or volatilization. 

Hybrid-Ag has the ability to blend custom fertiliser mixes 

using NPK, Limes, Gypsum and all other required nutrients 

with the Humax to provide the most effective fertiliser for 

your soil. This gives Hybrid Ag the ability to use powdered 

ingredients instead of traditional granular products 

resulting in a much more efficient nutrient delivery system 

to the plant. 

One of the very special features of this mix is the way it 

provides a natural home for the added and activated 

microorganisms, allowing them to survive and thrive in the 

soils they are applied to. One of the major challenges to 

introducing microorganisms into depleted soils is that a 

majority will not survive in the hostile environment they 

have been put into. Humax-50 provides a virtual ‘bridge’ 

that gives the microorganisms a chance to adapt to their 

new surroundings and begin to deliver their benefits to the 

soil.

Agri-Vive® 

Liquid Fertiliser for the Future 

Agri-Vive is a premium quality, world-class, liquid fertiliser 

range, using cutting edge technology to create a unique 

fusion between high potency N:P:K liquids and a broad 

spectrum of ‘active carbon’ organic ingredients. Hybrid-Ag 

has created a very special, biologically buffered plant 

nutrient liquid. 

We begin with a base of ultra-concentrated, pH balanced 

‘hot mix’ N:P:K liquids, manufactured in a controlled 

reaction between pure, technical grade ingredients. 

This pure base is then reacted with unique Heptonate 

Chelators and Fulvic acids, a process which binds the pure 

N:P:K liquids into complex carbohydrate chains. 

This complexing totally alters the way the nutrients react, 

making their uptake far more efficient as well as Ecofriendly. 

A comprehensive range of trace elements completes the 

package of a class-leading liquid nutrient blend. To this 

very unique blend we then add liquid kelp, aloe vera, amino

Power N® 

A Revolution in Nitrogen Application 

Power N is a revolutionary Nitrogen delivery technology 

that drives growth and increases the mineral density of 

your crop. 

New data on the efficiency of Nitrogen uptake is 

revolutionizing fertilizer applications in Turf Management in 

Australia. Typically, Australian Green Keepers have put 

large amounts of Ammonium Nitrate on the ground to 

obtain the growth responses required, with the focus being 

on UNITS of N per 100 sqm. This approach pays very little 

regard to how much Nitrogen is actually getting into the 

plant. By changing this thought process and applying the 

Nitrogen in a dramatically more efficient manner, Green 

Keepers are able to significantly reduce the amount of 

Nitrogen used to achieve the same results. 

How is this possible? By adding the nitrogen in a specific 

form as a foliar applied product. 

The form of nitrogen found in Power N is extremely 

efficient for the plant to convert to protein, thus saving it 

valuable energy that the plant can then put towards 

increased growth. Power N increases the mineral density of 

the plant as the nitrogen process ‘powers’ the sugar 

development in the plant. 

Power N is also easy to use. It is a workable product 

suitable for liquid injection, boom spray or even fertigation, 

available in a range of pack sizes.

The Role of Iron 

Nitrogen is the major building block in protein and 

chlorophyll. It is also essential for lipid and cytoplasm 

formation. Highly mobile in the plant, it is translocated and 

utilised in the growing tips. Nitrogen is vital to plant growth 

but can be a limiting factor in uptake of other nutrients. 

Nitrogen is often leached from the soil therefore regular 

application in low doses will ensure efficient uptake 

without excessive losses. 

Plants need iron to produce chlorophyll and Iron is also 

required to activate several enzymes, particularly those 

involved in photosynthesis and respiration, and chlorophyll 

production. 12 Iron Ions are required to complete 

Photosynthesis, thus making it a vital part of plant 

respiration.

The Role of Magnesium 

Magnesium promotes winter hardiness and early growth. It 

is essential for nitrogen metabolism and chlorophyll 

synthesis, and helps the turf to utilise iron and phosphate. 

Turf which is short of magnesium has yellowing drooping 

leaves. 

Magnesium interacts with both calcium and potassium so 

should be kept in balance with those. Ideally the calcium to 

magnesium ratio should be about 10:1.

Nitrogen is one of the most important nutrients for crop 

growth, second only to water. 

Nitrogen is a component of chlorophyll which therefore 

makes it essential for photosynthesis. It is also the basic

material DNA and RNA, and is important in periods of rapid 

plant growth.

Green Up 

Why Citric Acid? 

Iron Chelated with Citric Acid 

Green Up has been especially formulated to provide fast 

greening to turf grass without the high growth flush from 

high nitrogen inputs. 

The 100% soluble iron in Green Up is immediately available 

for both foliar and soil applications and stimulates a rich 

green colour and strong root growth for areas of high traffic 

and stress conditions. 

Iron, nitrogen and sulfur are all essential elements for 

photosynthesis whilst additional carbohydrates and fulvic 

promote healthy biology and increase the uptake of other 

nutrients. 


 

 



Citric acid is used as a powerful chelating agent and has a 

pH value of around 1-2. When formulated in fertiliser 

manufacturing this reduces the pH of the liquid which

Lockout® 

Industry Leaders & Innovators 

Biological Disease Control 

There are a number of species of microorganisms that have 

been identified as being effective in helping to control a 

broad spectrum of diseases. Three that have been 

researched in depth, and have been proven to assist in 

combating disease are: 

 

 

 

Trichoderma spp. eg T. harzianum 

Streptomyces spp. eg S. lydicus 

Bacillus spp. eg B. subtilis 

These potentially beneficial microorganisms often produce 

metabolites (natural chemicals) that assist plants to grow as 

well as inhibiting the growth of other disease causing 

microbes. These beneficial microorganisms live in close 

association with plants root systems and produce 

compounds that solubilise fertilisers as well as protecting 

their own immediate environment (the rhizosphere) from 

invasion by plant disease-causing organisms. 

The addition of synergistic species to the soil works far 

better than the addition of a single species and there needs 

to be many of them to compete with the disease 

population already present. 

The colonisation of the rhizosphere of turf grass has proved 

difficult because of: Low Organic Carbon Levels, Free 

Draining Sands, High Levels of Daily Player & Machinery 

Traffic and an Intensive Fertiliser and Fungicidal Disease 

Management Program. 


Hybrid Ag has been researching and developing biology and 

its benefits to Plant and Soil health over 2 decades. 

We have now developed a chemical-free product which 

stimulates the rapid formation of beneficial microorganisms 

in the rhizosphere of the plant. 

This product, based upon World 1st proprietary technology 

is now launched under the trade name Lockout®.

Liquid Microbial Inoculum 

Mycro-Start is based on a liquefied extract of wormdigested 

compost, this remarkable liquid contains a huge 

bio-diversity of beneficial bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and 

other microbes in a natural blend of plant available 

nutrients, humic & fulvic acid and phyto hormones.

sodicity and salinity unless extreme care is taken. Gypsum is

Liquid Fulvic Acid 

Fulvic acid is one of the most versatile and productive 

inputs in biological nutrition, providing a host of benefits 

for both soil and plants. It is a powerful organic electrolyte 

which can balance and energise all cells. 

Fulvix is derived from the decomposition of organic matter. 

It has a very complex molecule structure which has an 

extremely high cation exchange capacity (CEC) of 1400. This 

means that these organic acids can store a large quantity of 

positively charged minerals on them (i.e., K+, Ca+, Mg+, 

Mn+, etc). 

Fulvix acts as chelating agent where the molecules can cling 

to, and protect iron, zinc, copper and manganese from

Natural Bird Deterrent 

Birds and wildlife are naturally attracted to the vast variety 

of native trees and shrubs that feature in most Australian 

parks, gardens and golf courses. Areas that include water 

features are especially prone to increased populations of 

ducks and water birds, and to most they are a welcome 

sight and help add to the outdoor experience. In fact, the 

managers of many golf courses are active in promoting the 

variety of native bird species that visit the area for feeding 

and nesting, and in some cases are providing nesting boxes 

to encourage the bird population. 

Birds are welcome, however not in large numbers on the 

fairways, greens and tees. The damage that a flock of 

cockatoos, galahs or ducks etc. can make on the surface of 

a green can be quite extensive. 

Hybrid-Ag has developed a new product to combat these 

problems without harmful effects on the environment. 

Bird Bane is irritating to the trigeminal nerves of birds 

which controls their taste, sight and smell. This makes 

anything treated with Bird Bane extremely distasteful to 

birds with the result that they avoid the area and in most 

cases don’t come back for feeding as they now associate 

that area as unpalatable to them. (This only affects birds in 

this way and no other animals.) 

By treating only the greens, tees & fairways the Green 

Keeper can keep the birds off the problem areas while
