Nepia has a high ceBV for EMA<br />
(eye muscle area) at +2.60.<br />
This is the highest sire used<br />
at <strong>Tikana</strong> for EMA. When we<br />
originally scanned for EMA we<br />
assumed that based on the<br />
sheep industry, it would give an<br />
indication of the proportion of<br />
the carcass in the higher value<br />
cuts, particularly loin. The DPT<br />
has not only confirmed that<br />
ceBV EMA is a heritable trait in<br />
deer that correlates to a higher<br />
value carcass composition but<br />
that it is also highly correlated to<br />
a higher meat to bone ratio and<br />
tenderness of venison.<br />
