Uganda is a country of varied<br />

landscapes, with open savannah,<br />

thick rainforest and spectacular<br />

mountain scenery.<br />

<strong>The</strong> country offers<br />

immense biodiversity with 60<br />

Protected Areas and 10 National<br />

Parks which are home to a unique<br />

range of wildlife including over 1000 bird species and varied flora<br />

and fauna.<br />

<strong>The</strong> fabled "Mountains of the Moon”, the Rwenzoris, are in western<br />

Uganda along the Uganda-Congo border. Rwenzori Mountains<br />

National Park protects the highest parts of the mountain<br />

range. Other famous parks in Uganda include Bwindi<br />

Impenetrable <strong>For</strong>est, Kibale, Kidepo Valley, Lake<br />

Mburo, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Mount<br />

Elgon, Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth National Park,<br />

and Semuliki.<br />

Uganda is famous for its rare mountain gorillas and the opportunity<br />

for tracking these wonderful creatures.<br />

Mountain gorillas are a critically<br />

endangered species with less<br />

than 1,000 individuals remaining<br />

in Africa. About half of these are<br />

found in the Bwindi Impenetrable<br />

<strong>For</strong>est in Uganda, the rest in the<br />

Virunga Volcanoes shared<br />

between Uganda, Rwanda and DR<br />

Congo.<br />

Entebbe Airport is the hub for tourism into the country with a<br />

number of international airlines and regular flights from Nairobi in<br />

neigbouring Kenya.
