Jones Publisher/CEO Data News Endorsements…Voting Matters It is that time again to go to the polls to vote. We at Data News Weekly in continuing to be true to our motto as “The People’s Paper” are committed to advocating for members of our community to go out and VOTE. These are our endorsements in some of the races that are on the November 8th ballot. President of the United States: Hillary Clinton “People can judge me for what I’ve done. And I think when somebody’s out in the public eye, that’s what they do. So I’m fully comfortable with who I am, what I stand for and what I’ve always stood for.” –Hillary Clinton In the race for President of the United States the choice is clear; Hillary Clinton has the temperament, intelligence, and experience to lead. She has a worldview that is important given the threats both home and abroad. She has the public policy knowledge and skills to govern that will serve us well in the White House. Clinton has everything her opponent lacks, something that has been evident since the campaign began. Donald Trump has shown he is unfit to represent the most powerful nation in the world. It would be the worst thing in the world for us to elect him, a divisive small thinker that would rather build walls of division than bridges of understanding and inclusion. This is something Hillary Clinton has been doing her whole life; fighting for fairness and equality for those who are the neediest. Today, we are on the eve of a historical moment where we can elect the first woman President of the United States and continue the legacy set forth by Barack Obama and his progressive polices by electing Hillary Clinton to the nation’s highest office. Congressman Cedric Richmond (D-La) Louisiana 2nd Congressional District: Cedric Richmond “High school dropout rates nationally — Not enough is being done on this issue. There are a lot of stats and a strong correlation between dropout rates and crime as well as poverty. Keeping our kids engaged and in school must become a national priority.” – Cedric Richmond. He’s also been on the forefront of continuing to advocate for funds to rebuild New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and more recently Baton Rouge after the recent floods. He brings with him the intelligence and temperament to be an effective leader and advocate for the Louisiana Congressional District 2. Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal: Regina Bartholomew-Woods “I want to bring my diverse experience to the Court of Appeal and my appreciation and respect for the interests of everyday people who seek justice.” In the race for the 4th Circuit Court of Appeal we endorse Regina Bartholomew-Woods, she comes equipped with the experience and right temperament to serve on the bench. Prior to her judgeship, she Orleans Parish School Board, an attorney in private practice with several law firms, and with the United States Government at the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of the Solicitor in Dallas, Texas. Since winning the race for Civil Judge for Division B, she has been praised for her efficiency and work ethics. She is compassionate and competent earning endorsements from a host of civic, business and elected leaders. She is a fresh voice and the right choice in this important election. U.S. Senate: Caroline Fayard “The career politicians have failed us. We need a new voice.” In the race for the U.S. Senate, Data News Weekly endorses Caroline Fayard. She is a fresh face that will shake up the establishment in Washington D.C. In these pressing times we need a strong advocate that will represent all of the people of the State on Capitol Hill and she fits the bill. Several tragedies Democratic Senatorial Candidate Carolyn Faryad trusted her into public service: after witnessing the second plane hitting the World Trade Center during 9/11 and seeing the lackluster response during Hurricane Katrina she sprang into action to dedicate herself to serving those in need. Caroline saw firsthand the deficiencies of the response by serving as a Law Clerk for the Federal Court which heard a landmark case brought on behalf of hurricane survivors who were going to be displaced from their housing at Christmas by FEMA. This is her second run for elected office. She ran a strong race for Lieutenant Governor in 2010 making it to the runoff receiving 43 percent of the vote. Now she is poised and ready to be our fresh voice in Washington to be above the politics and party bickering and fighting to get things done for the people of Louisiana. This is an important election and as some are trying to suppress our turnout we cannot be deterred from exercising our right to VOTE. Far too many have fought, struggled and sacrificed their lives for us to allow hate and division to win on Election Day. Because if you don’t vote, it is a vote for Trump and an agenda that is against the interest of our community. So let me re-emphasize a non-vote is a Trump vote so if you do not vote on the 8th of November, wake-up on the 9th of November and Donald Trump is your president. There is no one to blame but YOU. Please get out and VOTE!!! In the race for Louisiana 2nd Congressional District of the U.S. House of Representatives we endorse Cedric Richmond. Throughout his political career he has been fighting for the people of the district and beyond. He is an important voice for the district and is a rising star on Capitol Hill. Recently, he’s been chosen to be part of a congressional working group to help to improve relations between African-Americans and the police. He also took the lead in demanding the United States Department of Justice look into the death of Baton Rouge resident Alton Sterling who was shot and killed by police. Richmond is a member of many committees including Homeland Security and is the ranking member on the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity. Judge Regina Bartholomew- Woods served as Counsel with the Law Firm of Boykin, Ehret & Utley, APLC. Her prior employment was as General Counsel for Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools in Charlotte, North Carolina; Staff Attorney with McGlinchey Stafford, PLLC; service as General Counsel for the IT’S FUN FALL TIME!
