PURPOSE SUMMARY:<br />
The Awards <strong>Committee</strong> consists of 5 members (4 appointed) who oversee the nomination <strong>and</strong> selection of the<br />
recipient of the Award for Excellence in Molecular Diagnostics, the Jeffrey A. Kant Leadership Award, <strong>and</strong>, if<br />
determined applicable, the recipient(s) of the Meritorious Service Award(s). The <strong>Committee</strong> evaluates the<br />
current awards, addresses the need for new awards, <strong>and</strong> conducts the formal nomination process for potential<br />
award recipients.<br />
The President-Elect serves as the Chair of the Awards <strong>Committee</strong>. The remaining 4 committee members are<br />
appointed by the Board <strong>and</strong> serve rotating two-year terms. The annual selection of 2 incoming committee<br />
members is conducted by the committee <strong>and</strong> the c<strong>and</strong>idates’ names are brought forward for Board approval<br />
<strong>and</strong> appointment.<br />
Timeline for <strong>AMP</strong> Awards<br />
The Awards <strong>Committee</strong> coordinated the timing of the <strong>AMP</strong> recognition awards as follows:<br />
November through February: Nominations from the Board, <strong>Committee</strong>s, <strong>and</strong> Membership<br />
March: Review <strong>and</strong> selection by Awards <strong>Committee</strong><br />
April through May: Notification of recipients<br />
May through September: Assess need for new recognition awards<br />
Award Recipients<br />
• <strong>2016</strong> Jeffrey A. Kant Leadership Award: Timothy J. O’Leary, MD, PhD<br />
• <strong>2016</strong> Meritorious Service Award: Neal I. Lindeman, MD<br />
• 2018 Award for Excellence in Molecular Diagnostics: To be announced<br />
FASEB Excellence in Science Award <strong>Committee</strong><br />
As a constituent society of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB), <strong>AMP</strong> has<br />
representation on the FASEB Excellence in Science Award <strong>Committee</strong>, which is “given in recognition of<br />
outst<strong>and</strong>ing achievement by women in biological science. Recipients are women whose career achievements<br />
have contributed significantly to further our underst<strong>and</strong>ing of a particular discipline by excellence in research.”<br />
