full page colour prints. Open weave cloth vg in striking d/w, this slightly worn and chipped around edges and<br />
spine with a few small tears but otherwise good. Written, illustrated and designed by Le Corbusier, this<br />
volume surveys his life and work, from his days as a student to the 1960s. It explores le Corbusier’s approach<br />
to the creative process, and is illustrated throughout with his sketches, several reproduced in vivid colour, as<br />
well as works <strong>of</strong> art, photographs <strong>of</strong> buildings etc. which influenced his philosophy <strong>of</strong> architecture. A vivid<br />

sl. foxed especially on upper wrapper else a very good copy<br />
<strong>of</strong> this rare and ephemeral catalogue. Loosely inserted list<br />
<strong>of</strong> exhibits and credits. Catalogue features the<br />
work <strong>of</strong> the major modern movement figures<br />
from the UK and abroad including Owen<br />
Williams, Le Corbusier, Owen Williams,<br />
Mendelsohn, Well Coates and many others. Half<br />
the content is period ads for modern movement<br />
suppliers. Catalogue design by Ashley Havinden,<br />
cover design possibly by McKnight Kauffer who<br />
designed the exhibition poster? On title page in<br />
red ink this copy is distinguished by the note:<br />
“This is the property <strong>of</strong> Basil Ward” and was a<br />
gift from him to Nigel Whiteley, Design Historian.<br />

+ decorated wrappers. Includes 14pp period ads at the end.<br />
Typographic wrappers designed by Edward Wright. Exhibition<br />
committee included John Bicknell, Misha Black, H T Cadbury Brown,<br />
Bertram Carter, Theo Crosby, Trevor Dannatt, Leo Desyllas, Jane<br />
Drew, Maxwell Fry, Ernö Goldfinger, J M Richards, Peter and Alison<br />
Smithson and others. Illustrations by Nicholas Bentley and Eduardo<br />
Paolozzi. The exhibition was to encourage modern building in the<br />
city “When London rebuilds on the ashes <strong>of</strong> Hitler’s fire, let us not<br />
