GameDay AT The Game
There was a buzz in the air on a cold November
morning as students filed into the Dillon
Quad with signs in their hands, ready to endure
the chilly weather to cheer on their team and
earn some nationally-televised face time. For
the first time in program history, Harvard University
hosted ESPN’s College GameDay and
members of the Harvard community lined in the
early morning hours of November 22, 2014 to
support the Crimson.
Visiting its second Ivy school and first since
2002, GameDay was eager to showcase all that
Harvard and Yale have to offer – both on the field
and in the classroom. The premier college football
preview show showcased three Crimson feature
stories. The first detailed how Norman Hayes
’15 and his family bonded together to survive the
tragedy of losing his sister Olivia. The second focused
on the Crimson seniors’ Last Lap, where
each graduating member shares a moment with
every man on the team after the final practice.
The ‘History of The Game’ depicted the original
rivalry, as ESPN’s Tom Rinaldi described the battle
as ‘oppression vs. freedom; justice vs. tyranny;
darkness vs. light; good vs. evil; Harvard vs. Yale.’
The show was watched by nearly two million
viewers before Harvard clinched the outright
Ivy League championship title in one of the
most dramatic games in recent memory. It was
a day that no fan will soon forget.
