RESPIRATORS
When caring for patients with suspected or
confirmed infectious respiratory virus, all the
healthcare workers need to - prior to any patient
interaction - assess the infectious risk posed to
themselves and wear the appropriate respiratory
protective equipment (RPE) to minimise that risk.
“We at LTHT are always looking at improving
our patients journey and equipping staff with the
appropriate resources to achieve this. One of the
areas we have invested time and effort in is respiratory
protection. We collaboratively worked with Full
Support, a UK base company who recently provided
us with a team of Fit2Fit accredited Clinical Specialists
who were available to deliver advice and educational
support on the correct respiratory protection to meet
the needs of our staff. Having a diverse range of
needs it was good to find a supplier that understood
our legal obligations and help us fulfil them.”
LEGISLATION STATES:
An FFP3 respirator should be worn by frontline staff when carrying out
a potentially infectious aerosol‐generating procedure. Where a patient is
known/suspected to have an infection spread via the aerosol route or
when caring for patients known/suspected to be infected with a newly
identified respiratory virus.
