Fact Sheet: The Workforce OJT Basics
The goal of the OJT (On-the-Job-Training) program
is to place eligible participants who are dislocated
workers in occupations that will enhance their
prospects for long-term employment.
It is a program in which the employer enters into an
agreement to hire, train, and retain the individual
upon successful completion of the training.
Employers receive a reimbursement to cover the
extraordinary costs of training and supervision as well
as to compensate for expected lower productivity of
the trainee versus a more experienced employee.
• You make the hiring decision.
• You determine the job performance standards.
• You retain the right to terminate a trainee.
• You do not need to worry about paperwork. It’s all
handled promptly and efficiently for you!
• You receive up to 90% reimbursement for the wages
during the training.
• You receive prompt payment for your portion of the
wage reimbursement.

level and extent as other workers
• Employs the dislocated worker
Please note that obtaining an OJT contract will be
contingent on funding availability. Eligibility of the
employer and employee must be confirmed. OJT
cannot be funded after hiring takes place.
