Welcome to Sean Devereux Park home of Yateley United FC.
Today is a very special occasion for the club and is without
doubt the biggest sporting occasion the park has seen
with this very special match in aid of Freddie Hunt and
supporting his family as Freddie undertakes the essential
treatment for his brain tumour.
Within hours of the now famous message on Yateley
Community Facebook page from Freddie’s mum Abbi
regarding Freddie’s condition we as a club began discussing
what contribution we could bring to the fund raising which
so many of our community began to undertake and so the
idea of this charity game was created.
With the whole club being run entirely by volunteers any
addition to their already heavy workload needed to be
carefully considered and understood. However, as many
said when discussing this, supporting Freddie was for us at
a community club simply the right thing to do and so it was
that work quickly commenced on what we anticipate will,
with the tremendous support we have received from former
professional footballers in our local area and in particular
from Queens Park Rangers FC and Reading FC, be a
memorable and successful event for our community to enjoy
and for Freddie’s Family to benefit from.
Today is very much about Freddie and the proceeds from the
game, collections, raffle, silent auction, sponsorship, food
etc will all be provided directly to his family to support them
in the challenging months ahead.

Yateley United FC the story
so far
It can be easy to forget that
Yateley United FC only came
into existence in 2013 when
we consider just how the
club has grown. It was just
three short years ago that
the club was formed by the
amalgamation of four local
football clubs Yateley FC,
Yateley Green FC, Yateley
Juniors and Beulieu Boys
and Girls FC. Since then the
club has purchased its own
ground at Sean Devereux
Park and become recognised
by Hampshire FA as
Hampshire’s second largest

club, in terms of teams, with for the 2016/17 season the
club consisting of 28 youth teams, 6 adult teams, including,
now in their second season, a Ladies team. All of this run
entirely by volunteers.
The funds for the purchase of the ground were provided
entirely from the proceeds of the popular community music
festival Gig on the Green, Yateley, organised by a team of
volunteers originating from the club and now in its seventh
year of planning. For the future the club is developing plans
to significantly improve its facilities at Sean Devereux Park
including floodlights, more pitches and a clubhouse. With,
we anticipate, the opportunity for other sports to join us
with tailored facilities to suit their needs.
New facilities such as these will attract a significant cost
and the continued supply
of funding from the music
festival and other fund
raising events we are
involved with, together with
significant grants from
the Football Foundation,
Sport England and other
authorities, will be essential
if we are to achieve our
vision of creating a facility
for the sporting use of our
community, and in particular
its youth, not just today but
100 years from now!
In the event of heavy rain preventing the game from going ahead
at Sean Devereux Park we are grateful to
who have kindly reserved their 3G all-weather pitch as an
alternative for the game.
Any announcement regarding this will be made on social media
and local radio on the morning of the match.

Freddie &
his family
Two-year-old Freddie Hunt
has an inoperable brain
tumour. The only potential
life-saving treatment
available is proton therapy
in the US. Proton Therapy
is more targetted than
normal radio therapy, so
it can concentrate on the
tumour. The treatment
costs at least £100,000
and is not yet available in
this country.
When Freddie’s parents
launched the appeal
they were overwhelmed
by the response of the
community of Yateley.
Twelve-year-old Finley
Prendiville, a friend of
Freddie’s brother Harry,
shaved his head for
sponsor money. Soon,
Freddie’s plight touched
local hearts. The Brain
David and Abby
Hunt with Freddie
Tumour Charity, Farnborough offered practical and
emotional support. Eagle Radio were also involved and
launched “Freddie’s Friday” on 4 November and raised
the donations to over £100,000. The Hunts’ favourite
club, QPR, became involved, Freddie meeting the
players and manager. Then Yateley United came up
with the idea of staging this match, and QPR legends
responded by giving their services to this game.

young Freddie when he and
his family came to visit the
players and coaching staff at

staged in Freddie’s home
town Yateley, to raise funds
for Freddie and to sustain
his family in the US while

Yateley United Ladies
The Yateley United Ladies’
team were formed by
Vikkie Moffett before last
season and coached by
Martin Elcox.
They joined the Thames
Valley League where they
had an excellent start,
finishing in the top half
of the table. They have
progressed further this
year and challenging for
silverware and involved in
the promotion race.

Youth football
A youth game played at Sean Devereux Park, U16 Panthers 2-1 Guildford Saints
that meets the needs of
the children playing – with
smaller pitches and goals.
This is also an introduction
for a newly-appointed coach
who will be on an equally
challenging learning curve.
With some 320 players and a team of over 80 volunteers
supporting them, the Youth Section of our club has
established itself as a well-organised team, providing
footballing opportunities to the younger members of our
community.
We start with our Mini Soccer section, where we introduce
boys and girls to the beautiful game. These sessions are
focussed on fun while still giving the kids some basic
coaching to get them ready to move up to form their very
first squad in the Under 7 (U7) age group.
Our U7 and U8 teams play 5v5 which provides a great
introduction to the game of football at a size and scale

move up to 7v7 for the U9
and U10 seasons. This
involves moving to a larger
pitch but is still officially
non-competitive. Within this
age group we continue to
work on developing a range

of skills with our players, helping them to establish their
preferred or best position in the team.
The next step in the football development is to 9v9 for our
U11 and U12 teams. In this format of the game we introduce
the offside rule, which is as much of a challenge to our
volunteer linesmen as it is to the players! Again, at this
format, the pitch and goal increases in size to reflect the
growth in size and power of the players.
The final stage in the Youth section is the move up to 11v11
football. We are fortunate at Yateley United that we have a
smaller pitch that allows this progression to be a slightly
phased transition, although the players get to use a full-size
goal from U13 on. In this format, we are governed by all of
the Rules of Association Football, with no changes from
those used in the adult game.
Due to our location near the county borders, although we
are affiliated to the Hampshire FA, we enter teams into
leagues from Hampshire, Surrey, and Berkshire. This allows
us to provide football opportunities across the age groups on
both Saturdays and Sundays, which helps avoid the fixture
congestions that could occur.
In addition to the football targeted at league football, we also
offer training opportunities for players that only want to
train. This can be especially beneficial to those players who

to our players and increase
participation in the game.
