Train all new personnel prior to planting season.
Provide refresher training to experienced planters
periodically and if poor techniques are commonly
observed.
Organize hand crews to have a crew leader for
every 5-6 planters. The crew leader should
supervise the planting operation and correct any
improper tree planting.
While hand planting, carry seedlings in a canvas
bag, bucket, etc. to protect the roots. Do not carry
seedlings in hand.
Be sure roots are visibly moist before placing in
container. If not, dip seedling roots in gel or other
coating.
Verify that the seedlings are the correct species
from the appropriate geographic seed source and
genetic stock prior to planting.
