ON this night before Christmas, poor Rudolph was crying. A mishap he had suffered while with his friends he was playing. In some low-hanging branches his antlers had become caught, and, panicked, he had yanked much harder than he ought. “CRACK !” went an antler as it snapped clean away. “Oh no!” he thought, horrified, “What will everyone say?” What would become of him, with one antler gone? How ever could he lead the sleigh from now on? “No one will want me,” he pined with a sob. “To another will be entrusted this most important of jobs.” 1
