8 | Kite Tales|FALL 2016 Corporate Kite Club Spotlight: Park Community Credit Union Who would like a cute debit card that also benefits Kosair Kids®? In 2011, Park Community Credit Union selected Kosair Charities to benefit from a new innovative fundraising idea. The plan is simple: When a customer opens a Park account, he or she has the option to donate $5 to receive a Kosair Charities debit card. Five years later, with 2,800 issued cards and employee donations, the Park Community debit card program has raised over $40,000 for Kosair Charities. A portion of the funds raised from the Park Community debit card program contributed to the new playground at the Kosair Charities East Campus (see page 9). The Kosair Kids® at Bluegrass Center for Autism now enjoy a safe environment to have fun! “At Park, part of our fundamental mission is to work for the success of our members and our communities,” says Jim Spradlin, president of Park Community Credit Union. “For many years we have had a valuable relationship with Kosair Charities through our charity debit card program. We feel that this gives us the chance to give back to those in our communities that need a helping hand. Our organization considers it an honor to work with Kosair Charities and to have the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of those that Kosair Charities serves.” Park Community does not stop there. If you attend a Kosair Charities event and meet a volunteer, there is a strong possibility it is a Park Community employee. Kosair Night at the Zoo, St. Matthews Mid- Summer’s Night 5K and the Gaslight Festival are just a few of the events where they have helped as volunteers. Their staff, family and friends have also volunteered at Kosair Charities to wrap toys and books for Kosair Kids® during the holiday season. Park Community also raises awareness about Kosair Charities at their branch locations and events. Park Community has received a number of honors, including Louisville Business First 2016 Partners in Innovation Award and the Chamber of St. Matthews 2016 Community Champion. Kite Tales|FALL 2016 | 9 Bluegrass Center for Autism playground dedication Three years ago, Kosair Charities East Campus opened to help expand services for Kentuckiana’s children with special needs. Formally known as Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Center – Easter Seals, Kosair Charities’ East Campus provides a charitable lease to The Kids Center for Pediatric Therapies and the Bluegrass Autism Center to operate “rent free.” On Sept. 29, community leaders gathered to dedicate a new playground located on the Bluegrass Center for Autism wing. This playground replaced outdated equipment that was not fully accessible. All of the new equipment is not only recreational. Each activity at the playground also has therapeutic value for the children. At times, the project’s goal to raise $120,000 to build the playground seemed out of reach. The new playground is now an example of the generosity and overwhelming support for kids in our community. Thank you to our Premier Partners: Park Community Credit Union, City of Jeffersontown, Louisville Metro, Councilwoman Marilyn Parker, Councilman Glenn Stuckel, and the Dream Foundation of Kentucky. Thank you for being project leaders to help make the playground a reality. Generous contributions were also provided by the Cralle Foundation Inc. - Jim Crain, Home Foundation Inc., Koch Charitable Trust, Walmart Community Fund, FEAT, Landscape Structures, Jeffersontown Mayor Bill Dieruf, and the Jeffersontown City Council.
