“ I don't know what it is, but sooner
or later I end up without clothes in
photo shoots. I suffered a slight cold
the other month and my mom simply
mentioned: ‘no wonder if you lie around
naked in all those magazines!’”
Oh my! Perhaps before things get too hot in
here, perhaps we should get to know you a
bit better. You’ve been described as not only
sexy, but a genuinely nice guy and quite
intelligent. Who is Nick Beyeler, really?
Thanks for that! I'm a double-twisting, high
leg-kicking, coffee drinking, Mac enthusiast
with an interest in everything related to Zen
and Mental training who loves to travel and
who can turn any clean hotel room in a big
mess in just five minutes. I'm a strict carry
on luggage person, my bags simply got lost
one too many times while traveling. I perform
for events and shows and after 10 years, I'm
still loving it.
Apparently you cook, too?
I can turn into this kitchen god every now and
then. Love big and sharp knifes. There's
something sexy about smoothly cutting
through colourful vegetables. I rely hard on
my improvisational skills while cooking. I
don't believe in recipes.
And you like it spicy?
The spicier the better. I guess my spice taste
buds got killed off eating that devilishly hot
glass noodle beef salad during a recent trip
through Thailand.
What things do you have on the go these
days professionally?
I just got back from an audition for Cirque du
Soleil that went well, but my whole body still
hurts. However I'm unsure if I truly want to be
stuck for two years in a tiny trailer full of
Korean contortionists. So I figured it's time
for something all new. To expand my own
performance into a fully grown multimedia
spectacle, less fairytale, more remixed urban
acrobatic extravaganza. Oooh, I'm getting
hot.
We’re into 2007 and, as usual, millions have
made resolutions to hit the gym, get a sixpack,
yada, yada, yada. How did you get
that incredible body?
I believe I was always blessed with a constant
desire to move, which resulted in
quite a fit body. Even though I'm
not working out half as much as
people believe I do. The trick is
to find pleasure in how you work
out, to fully enjoy yourself and to
identify yourself with a fit lifestyle.
And how do you keep it?
I spend a lot of my time traveling,
away from home. Which is a
challenge in terms of keeping up
a strict workout and diet program.
Therefore I believe in short
and explosive training sessions
that don't require equipment and
can easily be done in a tiny hotel
room. Basic gymnastic exercises like
pushups, some short Martial Arts routines,
and I'm heavy into yoga and Tai
Chi.
What’s the best piece of advice you
could give those who want to shape up?
Try out something new. Make your workout
a pleasurable experience. There are so
many activities out there, don't limit yourself
to a gym lifting weights. Weightlifting just to
build big muscles and burning no fat?
Pointless. Make it your personal goal to try
out a completely new activity this spring.
Oh, and put your workout bag into your
car. Without the need to pass by your home
after work before your workout it's harder to
fall into the trap of staying on your couch for
the evening. Start cooking for yourself. No
matter if you are living on your own or with
a partner, it's a very rewarding experience.
Lastly, is there anything people would be surprised
to know about you?
I can perform in front of thousands of people
without getting nervous, but shrink the audience
to three or four close friends or fellow
athletes and I turn into a nervous wreck!
