A <strong>Day</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Life</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Bushmaster</strong><br />

From Oct. 8-21, fourth-year<br />

medical students from <strong>the</strong> Uniformed<br />

Services University <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Health<br />

Sciences' (USU) F. Edward Hébert<br />

School <strong>of</strong> Medic<strong>in</strong>e, <strong>the</strong> Daniel K.<br />

Inouye Graduate School <strong>of</strong> Nurs<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

and visit<strong>in</strong>g foreign students, took<br />

part <strong>in</strong> Medical Field Practicum<br />

202, also known as Operation<br />

<strong>Bushmaster</strong>. In <strong>the</strong> mounta<strong>in</strong>s at Fort<br />

Indiantown Gap, north <strong>of</strong> Harrisburg,<br />

Pennsylvania, students were tested<br />

on <strong>the</strong> skills <strong>the</strong>y've learned over <strong>the</strong><br />

course <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir four years at USU.<br />

Exercises <strong>in</strong>cluded helicopter<br />

evacuations, simulated <strong>in</strong>jured<br />

service dogs, and a variety <strong>of</strong><br />

simulated casualty scenarios. While<br />

<strong>the</strong> operation is meant to test <strong>the</strong><br />

students' knowledge <strong>of</strong> military<br />

medic<strong>in</strong>e, its overall <strong>in</strong>tention is to<br />

challenge participants’ leadership<br />

and teamwork skills.<br />
