<strong>Abortion</strong> pill: what is it?<br />

This is used for termination a pregnancy that has not evolved further than the 10th<br />

week maturation. This mainly consists of two medications- the first one is an antiprogesterone<br />

drug that prohibits the necessary hormone which is utilized for<br />

building the uterine wall that keeps the embryo attached. With this impediment<br />

the hormones are rendered ineffective, the uterine lining is shed <strong>and</strong> the embryo<br />

becomes detached. The secondary pill, a prostagl<strong>and</strong>in analogue causes contractions<br />

in the uterus <strong>and</strong> helps eject the embryo.<br />

You can access abortion pill online or from a pharmacist, however, you would<br />

have to buy two sets of different pills to have the highest chance of safe termination<br />

which is up to 96-97%. These two sets of pills are popularly called Mifepristone <strong>and</strong><br />

Misoprostol. The recommended dosage for them is one tablet of Mifepristone 200 mg<br />

<strong>and</strong> four tablets of Misoprostol (800 mcg) total.<br />

The first medical abortion medication, then called “RU-486” was invented in France<br />

in 1988 <strong>and</strong> was approved by the US FDA in September 2000.
