ENGAGE
THE WORLD
ENGAGE (EN-GEYJ)
choosing to involve oneself in or commit oneself to something
Many of the world’s top business owners choose to engage with
the Entrepreneurs’ Organisation, leading to greater business
success and an enriched personal life. By engaging the world,
we will become stronger as leaders and learn more about
ourselves, our strengths and our passions … therefore finding
our motivation and purpose. Once we do this, we will become
the most influential community of entrepreneurs in the world.
MY BUSINESS, MY FAMILY, MY
COMMUNITY, MYSELF
The Entrepreneurs’ Organisation (EO) – for entrepreneurs only
– is a dynamic, global network of more than 9,500 business
owners in 40 countries. Founded in 1987 by a group of young
entrepreneurs, EO is the catalyst that enables entrepreneurs to
learn and grow from each other, leading to greater business
success and an enriched personal life.

OUR VALUE
PROPOSITION
The Entrepreneurs’ Organisation enriches members’ lives by providing benefits drawn from
three dynamic areas: peer-to-peer learning, once-in-a-lifetime experiences and connections
to experts.
DIRECT
PEER-TO-PEER
LEARNING
ONCE-IN-
A-LIFETIME
EXPERIENCES
CONNECTIONS
TO EXPERTS
Members share the personal
and professional issues
they face in a confidential,
non‐competitive environment.
They learn and grow by
sharing experiences with their
peers, not simply by listening
to advice.
Not only do EO members
attend unique conferences
in cities all over the world,
but they also receive access
to exclusive social events,
behind-the-scenes invitations
and exciting networking
opportunities.
EO members tap into a
network of experts on an
as-needed basis, drawing
from the experience of
others in areas such as
medical treatment, business
advice, life-skills coaching
and more.
EO LEARNING
EO offers learning experiences that are once in a lifetime. From one on one conversations with
Kofi Anan to sales strategies with Jack Daly, EO Globally has access to speakers and educators
unlike any other.
EO Sydney has had the pleasure of hosting some of the world’s best presenters. A few from the
past 12 months are as follows:
MEGAN QUINN
Co Founder Net-a-Porter
From modest launch funding, Net-A-Porter went on to become
a fascinating global success story of entrepreneurship, brand
developments, online strategy and unique levels of customer
service. Prior to the establishment of Net-A-Porter, Megan Quinn
built an international career specialising in retailing, advertising
and publishing for the fashion, jewellery, hotel and airline industries
and has held a variety of senior executive board roles including
Harrods. Today, she is a non-executive director of UNICEF
Australia, Specialty Fashion Group and Fitted For Work.
Megan presented her view on the challenges and opportunities
facing Australian businesses today in playing the game of catch up.
PAUL DE GELDER
On February 11th, 2009 while Paul de Gelder was on exercise as
a Navy clearance diver in Sydney Harbour, he was attacked by a
massive bull shark between Garden Island and Mrs Macquarie’s
Chair resulting in the loss of his right leg and right hand. Drawing
on everything his eventful life had taught him, Paul left nothing
to chance in his recovery. He fought through excruciating pain,
smashing challenge after challenge and amazing medical staff
with his will to succeed.
Paul shared with us his inspiring story which took ‘never say die’ to
a whole new level.
business? EO is about learning from and being supported by a
group of inspiring entrepreneurs, worldwide!

JACQUELINE ARIAS
Business(s): República
Business description: República is an Australian food brand
company that is 100 percent organic, carbon neutral, ethical
and fair trade, its products are stocked nationally at Coles and
Woolworths.
When did you know that you wanted to become an
entrepreneur? It started with a bad coffee in Colombia. In
2005 I had told my family that there’s going to be fabulous coffee
in Colombia. But what they actually drink is instant coffee. These
multinationals buy coffee out of Colombia, ship it to first world
countries, and the Colombians themselves are left with very poor
coffee. I got curious. There was no justice to that. Some of the best
products we consume on a daily basis are produced in third world
countries. They give their best. When I left Colombia, I came back
to Australia and resigned. I had a mission. I had a purpose, to
build the most ethical food brand in Australia.
Why did you join EO / What has EO done for you/
your business? Being an entrepreneur is often a lonely journey.
EO has opened the doors to the most incredible network of
like minded, successful go-getters in Australia and abroad. The
learnings from the best in any industry, hosted by EO, as well as
the experience with fellow EO colleagues is an invaluable asset of
the organisation unlike any other.
JANE LU
Business(s): ShowPo
Business description: Showpo is an online retail shop.
We follow micro trends and buy stock quickly when it’s seen on the
Internet.
Why did you join EO / What has EO done for you/your
business? I joined EO to find a group that I can share all the
ups and downs of being an entrepreneur with. Also to meet people
who have more experience that I can seek guidance from. And for
the awesome parties!
FORUM
YOUR PERSONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS
WHAT IS FORUM?
What would you give for a personal Board of advisors or for the ability to tap into a small group
of fellow business owners who can offer you direction based on their experiences? This invaluable
access is available through Forum, a unique member-driven experience offered by EO that brings
together a group of entrepreneurs for peer-to-peer learning and support. Participants take part in
monthly meetings employing special protocols to support a trusting environment in which they can
safely explore business and personal growth issues.
WHAT HAPPENS AT FORUM MEETINGS?
We can share 95 percent of our lives with anyone. During Forum meetings, members discuss
the other five percent – the triumphs and tragedies of life as an entrepreneur. Moderator-trained
EO members, not paid facilitators, guide the sessions, which emphasise confidentiality, personal
responsibility and the sharing of lessons learned. Members don’t give advice; they speak from prior
experience, letting you draw your own conclusions on the best manner to proceed.
HOW DO I JOIN A FORUM?
Upon joining the organisation, your chapter’s Forum Chair will work to place you into a Forum.
You may begin a new Forum with other members who join at the same time, or you may join a
pre-existing Forum. Your Forum Chair will ensure you are placed with the right number and mix of
business owners to avoid sharing the room with competitors.
Established Forums may benefit from undertaking an Advanced Forum Series Program. There are
four different programs currently available – each four hours in duration.
Shift Into High Gear: Increasing Meeting Effectiveness – A basic reintroduction/update on
meeting best practices; best use of meeting tools, covering updates, parking lot, coaching gestalt and
presentation.
Dive Deep: Building Deeper Levels of Trust and Sharing – A bonding experience appropriate either
for a fairly new group or a group that wants to increase their emotional connection.
Fast Track Forum: Defining and Achieving Your Goals – A systematic method for Forums wanting
to incorporate goal setting and accountability activities into their monthly meetings.
Fired Up: Reaching New Levels of Presentation and Coaching – A practice oriented session focusing
on increasing coaching effectiveness and effective presentation skills.
ASIA BRIDGE FORUMS
Members keen to pursue an Asian business focus might wish to consider participating in the Asia
Bridge Forums. The Asia Bridge Forum (ABF) started in 2006 with 16 members from the South East
Asian chapters (and one from Japan). Most of these members had been involved in local Forum for
many years, and sought to leverage our network and have Forum with members from other chapters
in our region. They now have 80 members in seven Forums with members from the Philippines,
Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Korea, New Delhi, Dallas
and, most recently, Adelaide.
The Asia Bridge Forums meet three times a year – with one of these meetings being a mini University
called ABC or Asia Bridge Campus. The venue for each meeting changes each time so that part of
the experience is the location. In the past there has been Forum in ancient Japanese temples, on
private islands, in cricket fields, on yachts, and even in the temples of Angkor Wat!
WHY JOIN AN ASIA BRIDGE FORUM?
• Get perspectives from another culture
• Seek help in expanding to another country
• Experience a city through a local’s eyes
• Find connections in another chapter.
QUALIFICATION CRITERIA
To qualify, applicants must be:
1. A member in good standing with the local chapter
2. Forum-trained (moderator-trained is better) and have participated in a local Forum for at least
one year
3. Able to commit to at least two meetings in a year.
EXPENSE
Aside from travel to the venue and accommodation, there is a $1500 annual fee paid at the start
of the year to cover all three meetings.
For further details, or to apply, please email info@eonetwork.org.au for an application form.
EO INJECTED FORUMS
WHAT IS EOINJECTED?
EOinjected is an EO Forum and event program designed to better meet the needs of specific
member segments, as well as provide added value. EOinjected is built around input from members,
and the results of EO’s annual All Member Survey. EO Global recognises that some members want
to enhance their peer experience by interacting with those who share specific traits.
Members join EOinjected to:
• Connect on a deeper level with like-minded members
• Fulfil needs not always addressed at the chapter level
• Share experiences with members who really understand their issues and their goals
• Receive additional accountability and business take-home value.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN EOINJECTED?
• EOINJECTED QUANTUM LEAP is for members who have, or have had, a business earning
US$15+ million in annual revenue; or
• EOINJECTED INSIGNIA is for members who have been with EO for more than seven years.
EOINJECTED MEETING STRUCTURE
All EOinjected Forums begin with a dinner the night before their meeting. Meetings are held in
various locations around Australia. The Forums consist of 8 to 12 members who meet quarterly for
an intensive, all-day meeting that merges Forum with a direct focus on business and on you. During
the meeting, you will work with tools that enable you to explore the five EOinjected pillars: Strategy,
People, Execution, Finance and Me (the individual entrepreneur).
Essentially, half of the meeting consists of traditional Forum presentations that are taken to the next
LEARNING FROM THE WORLD’S TOP BUSINESS SCHOOLS
Through relationships with top entrepreneurial schools such as MIT and Babson College, EO provides
executive education programs that allow members to expand their business knowledge and leadership
skills. The agendas for programs such as the renowned Entrepreneurial Masters Program vary, but
cover topics such as the six fundamental areas of business: management, finance, human resources,
marketing and sales, operations, and research and development. Mature business owners can also
learn about mergers and acquisitions, wealth preservation and planning, mid-life transitions, launching
a new business (serial entrepreneurship), advanced management and hiring executive leadership.
Institute Seminar leverages on the leadership expertise of Dr. Gerard Bell.
• EO London Business School - Growth Forum
global business institutions, to bring you the EO/London Business School Growth Forum:
Breaking Barriers.
Is your company’s growth stagnant? Do you want to propel your organization to the next
level and beyond? Or are you growing so rapidly that it’s difficult for you to manage the side
effects, like people, finances, innovation and more? Find the support you need during the
Entrepreneurs’ Organization Executive Education program.
tools and frameworks you need to not only break the barriers that prevent growth, but help you
tackle the inevitable challenges that come with that growth. Get pragmatic, real-world insights
from London Business School faculty and your EO peers, and leave the program with a concise
plan you create for growing your business!.
CHAPTER EVENTS
LOCAL INSIGHTS AND CONNECTIONS
When you join EO, you join a chapter as well as the Global organisation. As part of this local community
of entrepreneurs, members participate in regular chapter learning and social events. You will have the
opportunity to connect with local EO members and benefit from knowledgeable guest speakers discussing
a variety of business topics. In many cases, these programs capitalise on the availability of high-quality
local presenters, educating you on nearby resources and addressing themes in your business community.
• Register for EO Sydney chapter events on EOaccess – eoaccess.eonetwork.org/sydney
CHAPTER EVENTS – NOTICE OF CANCELLATION TO ATTEND
Members need to register for each event attended on EO Access. Once you have registered for an event,
you must give at least two business days advance notice of cancellation, unless stated otherwise on the
event posting, to the Events Manager to allow time to contact caterers. If notice is not given two business
days in advance or as specified, the member will be charged a nominated amount, as stipulated on each
individual invitation, per person for failure to cancel in time. The reason for the penalty is to make sure
we treat all members fairly. Every event is funded by either member fees or by sponsorship generated by
members who volunteer their time. We work hard to ensure everyone knows about the events, that we
provide high quality learning opportunities and that costs are kept down. While there may be reasonable
circumstances preventing the member’s attendance, there are no exceptions to this rule.
26

Mentoring Program provides a chapter based framework to help the mentoring succeed, including
a carefully designed matching process and ongoing follow-up by the chapter Mentoring Chair.
• EO Sydney’s Mentoring Program brings together two members from differing peer communities
and creates an opportunity for sharing of knowledge between a mentor and mentee
MEMBERSHIP REFERRAL PROCEDURE
To refer a prospective member to EO Sydney please contact our Chapter Administrator Jenny
Ghobrial via info@eonetwork.org.au or on +61 410 755 397, following the procedures below.
Firstly, ensure they qualify. We are looking for people who meet each of the following criteria:
• Owner - a sole proprietor of an unincorporated business, or sole shareholder of a corporation.
• Significant Partner - a general partner of a company with managing duties.
• Actively in control - (1) having sole or predominant day-to-day management duties at an
operational and/or strategic level, as well as an ownership interest in the business enterprise,
company, corporation or partnership; or, alternatively, (2) a trustee of a trust in which the trustee
is also a beneficiary, where the relevant business enterprise, company, corporation or partnership,
or a controlling interest in the relevant business enterprise, company, corporation or partnership,
is an asset of the trust.
• Controlling Shareholder - a shareholder in a corporation with either voting control of the
corporation or effective control of the corporation through the exercise of management rights.
• Founder or Co-founder - a person responsible for the formation of the specific business enterprise,
company, corporation or partnership either individually or jointly who, at the inception of the
business enterprise, company, corporation or partnership was either an Owner, General Partner,
Majority Shareholder or Actively in control. Such founders are not required to own a majority of
the company’s stock or partnership interests as long as such applicants are in direct control or
co-control of the company. Control is to be determined by the EO Board in their sole discretion.
• Controlling Owner - Own 50% or more of the outstanding stock or partnership interests.
• Gross Revenue - as determined by use of GAAP in the USA. For companies involved in Broker/
Dealer activities, cost of goods or services brokered do not count as gross revenue, only
commissions from the sale of such goods or services would be considered gross revenue
The Sydney chapter has a further five criteria items of which the potential applicant must meet at
least 3 of the 5 benchmarks. The five additional criteria are:
1. Their company grosses AUD$5 million annually
2. Their company earns AUD$500K in profit annually
3. Their company has experienced three years of year-on-year growth
4. They employ five or more staff
5. Their industry is unique to EO Sydney
• In addition they will need to live by our EO Core Values – we are looking for great people who
will add value to the rest of the membership as well as receiving value from their EO experience
• They want to be engaged – that is they want to participate in a Forum, attend the monthly events
and national/international events, universities, etc.
35

Secondly, what do you do if you know someone who would be a great new member?
• Speak to them about your EO experiences and why you’re a member
• Explain what we are looking for in new EO members as above
• If they qualify, meet our requirements and are interested to know more, send our Chapter
Administrator an email introducing the new member (send the email to them at the same time)
and include their name, company, contact number and your recommendation.
NEXT STEPS
The Chapter Administrator will make contact with the applicant and have a brief discussion outlining
the benefits of EO, ask about the applicants business and ensure the applicant meets the qualification
criteria. Once it has been established that an applicant qualifies, they will be sent an email with an online
application link, a revenue verification form and a few written questions about their business journey.
Upon completion and return of all the items listed above, the applicant will be referred to the
Membership Chair for a face-to-face interview. This is the opportunity for both the applicant and the
Membership Chair to ask questions and clarify the process of becoming a member. It is also a time
for the Member Chair to gauge if the applicant will be a good fit for the Sydney Chapter.
Once the interview has been successfully completed, the applicant will attend a Forum Test Drive
along with other prospective members. The Test Drive is a mock Forum environment attended by
applicants, the Forum Chair, Moderators from Forums with open positions and any other Committee
members who wish to attend.
Once the Test Drive process is complete, the Forum Chair, Moderators and Committee members
collectively decide if an applicant will be invited to join the chapter.
If you are considering referring a member you can use this table as an indicator of the joining costs.
Please note, these figures are subject to change and will be taken in two transactions; globally in
USD$ and locally in AUD$.
member’s joining date, Forum membership and service to the organisation must be forwarded
along with a description of the member’s business confirming the member still meets the criteria
for membership. Acceptance into the new chapter is a decision for that chapter Board/Committee.
CHAPTER COMMUNICATIONS
EO email and contact lists shall be used for official EO business only. The use of EO email addresses
for any other purpose is not permitted. It is important that members keep this directory confidential
and in a safe place. Members who actively solicit business within EO may have their membership
revoked. All requests for information from the chapter must be made via the Chapter Administrator.
SOLICITATION POLICY
At EO, we take our non-solicitation policy seriously, as it serves an integral role in the overall health
of our membership.
This Solicitation Policy encompasses five dimensions – (1) Third Party Solicitation, (2) Social Media,
(3) Strategic Alliance Partners or Sponsors, (4) Natural Disasters and (5) Marketplace. Generally,
EO prohibits any solicitation by a member to another member or to a strategic alliance partner
or sponsor of EO or a chapter except as provided in this Solicitation Policy. For purposes of this
Solicitation Policy, the word “Solicitation” means any direct or indirect contact that was not requested
by the recipient in regards to the sale or marketing of a product or service, a donation, an investment
or any other cause. Further, the conduct or actions of any non-member are attributable to the
member that introduced the non-member to EO or otherwise distributed information relating to EO
to the non-member, regardless of whether the distribution was intentional or inadvertent.
THIRD PARTY SOLICITATION
EO strictly prohibits the distribution or dissemination of information by any member relating to any other
member or members to any non-member. EO may pursue all remedies available under the Amended
Bylaws, Policies and Procedures or under law including, without limitation, the expulsion or termination
of any violating member from EO and from the member’s chapter. EO is strongly committed to
protecting against the distribution or dissemination of member information to third parties.
STRATEGIC ALLIANCE PARTNERS OR SPONSORS
EO strictly prohibits Solicitation by any member including, without limitation, any member leader,
director or officer of either EO Global or a chapter to any EO strategic alliance partner or sponsor
or a chapter strategic alliance or sponsor (collectively referred to as “Sponsor”) except in the context
of any marketplace created and maintained by EO or a chapter (“Marketplace”) in which the
member has chosen to join and abide by the Marketplace rules. In a Marketplace subject to its rules,
any member may approach a sponsor that has chosen to participate in the Marketplace and vice
versa. EO and its chapters shall attempt to enter into agreements with sponsors that limit Solicitation
activities to the confines of a Marketplace without distribution or disseminating specific information
in relation to any member.
NATURAL DISASTERS
While any Solicitation is generally prohibited, the Solicitation of members in relation to a natural
disaster or an act of God for the purposes of soliciting donations or in-kind assistance is exempt
from this Solicitation Policy ONLY IF EO approves the Solicitation prior to its occurrence, distribution
or dissemination. Any member that desires to solicit in connection with a natural disaster or an act
of God for the sole purpose of soliciting donations or in-kind assistance must do so by applying
for an exemption with the member’s chapter. The chapter will forward the application to EO where
the Board of Directors will endeavour, without any obligation whatsoever, to approve or reject the
application within 14 days of receipt of the application from a chapter.
MARKETPLACE
EO or any of its chapters may create a Marketplace without violating this Solicitation Policy. The
exemption provided by this Solicitation Policy in relation to a Marketplace is limited to any interaction,
activity or Solicitation that occurs within the confines of a Marketplace. Any member that opts to
join a Marketplace agrees by doing so to accept Solicitation from another member or a sponsor
at the member’s sole risk. This Solicitation Policy remains in full force and effect in regards to any
interaction, activity or Solicitation outside a Marketplace. A violation by a member of any rule or
policy associated with a Marketplace constitutes a violation of this Solicitation Policy.
