Great journalists are taught by great teachers.<br />
To recognize some of the nation’s best journalism educa<strong>to</strong>rs,<br />
NewsPro asked readers and other media professionals <strong>to</strong><br />
nominate an outstanding academician. Our list of honorees includes<br />
professors, department chairs and direc<strong>to</strong>rs of media centers from<br />
universities, large and small. In alphabetical order, here are some of the<br />
educa<strong>to</strong>rs who have garnered accolades for their outstanding work.<br />
WIllIAM F. BAkER<br />
Direc<strong>to</strong>r, Bernard L. Schwartz Center for Media, Public Policy and<br />
Education and Claudio Aquaviva Chair and Journalist-In-Residence<br />
Fordham University<br />
Leading with kindness was cited as one of the attributes most<br />
admired in Bill Baker, direc<strong>to</strong>r of the Bernard L. Schwartz Center for<br />
Media, Public Policy and Education at Fordham University, where<br />
he is also the Claudio Aquaviva Chair and Journalist-in-Residence.<br />
Baker was nominated for “his strong ability <strong>to</strong> engage and inspire each<br />
student … [and being the embodiment of ] a<br />
truly gifted, kind and noteworthy educa<strong>to</strong>r.”<br />
Prior <strong>to</strong> joining Fordham, Baker served as the<br />
president of Educational Broadcasting Corp.<br />

He also served as president of Westinghouse<br />
Television and chairman of Group W Satellite<br />
Communications. Among many accolades,<br />
he has won seven Emmy Awards and two<br />
duPont-Columbia Journalism awards, and was<br />
named <strong>to</strong> the National Academy of Television<br />
Arts & Sciences Management Hall of Fame<br />
and the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame.<br />
