Thank you for your interest in Mt. St. Helens Emerald Obsidianite © , St.
Helens Rose © and Mt St. Helens Twilight!
1. About Emerald Fox Company. Mt. St. Helens Emerald Obsidianite is
a beautiful gemstone that has been created under specific laboratory conditions,
using rock dust from the eruption of Mount Saint Helens. The
volcanic blast reduced much of the mountain to dust sending it halfway
around the world. This blast also destroyed and melted the outer shell of
expensive trucks and logging equipment. Using acetylene torches to salvage
their equipment, workers quickly noticed that the gray ash-like substance
was melting and making green stones. With that discovery, it was
only a matter of time before the first Emerald Obsidianite stones were
created, introducing the world to this remarkable legacy of beauty. The
color of Emerald Obsidianite comes from trace elements that are naturally
found in the volcanic rock. A similar stone called Olivine—also known as
“Hawaiian Diamonds”— can be found on the beaches of Hawaii. Olivine is
naturally created from lava coming from Hawaiian volcanoes.
Emerald Fox Company started as a Seattle-based store in 1979. In 1981,
they teamed with a Seattle chemist who had discovered that the “ash” —
or rock dust—could be fused into an emerald colored stone with excellent
refraction (sparkle) and quartz–like durability. Since 1981 they have been
the exclusive producer of Mt St. Helens Emerald Obsidianite © ; St. Helens
Rose © , more recently, Mt. St. Helens Twilight. (a pale light Tanzanite).
