WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN AN
LED LIGHT
BULB OR
INTEGRATED
LED lighting is available as bulbs, replaceable modules or can be a fully integrated part of the light
fixture. When they’re integrated, it means once the life of the LED is over, the entire fixture will need
to be replaced. Bulbs and modules allow for only the “light” part of the fixture to be replaced.
LUMENS
NOT WATTS
Lumens (Lm) express brightness, whereas watts (W) measure how
much power, or electricity, the bulb is using. This chart compares
the lumen output of an incandescent versus a LED bulb.
COLOR OF
THE LIGHT
Warm white or cool white light? Which
should you choose? Most incandescent
lighting is warmer – what’s known as
delivering 2700K-3000K on the Kelvin
scale. Daylight is cooler: around 4500K
with a bluish, brighter tint. When choosing
an LED, look for the Kelvin temperature
rating on the packaging.
DIMMABLE
Not all LEDs dim, not all LEDs dim down to the same level, and not all dimmer
switches work with all LEDs. When selecting an LED light and switch, make
sure dimming capabilities are clearly spelled out.
F C C
COMPLIANCE
FCC rated fixtures assure they won’t interfere with other household items controlled
wirelessly – such as garage door openers, TV remotes and cordless phones.
