Punctuality We are grateful to all the parents/carers who ensure students maintain good levels of attendance and punctuality – this is important for so many reasons. Poor punctuality not only affects a student’s education and life chances but it also disrupts the learning of others. All students would benefit from a positive and organised start to their day and so I am writing to inform you of some changes to the procedures that we will follow should a student be late to school, starting from Monday 30 th January 2017. Students should be seated in their Tutor rooms by 8.50 am. If a student arrives after this time, they must register at Student Services where they will be marked in late with the Attendance Officer, who will issue a “Late to School” slip. Any student with a “Late to School” slip must attend a 20 minutes lunchtime detention at 1.00 pm in S25 on the same day. Failure to attend this detention will result in an escalation of the sanction. If there is a genuine reason for their lateness, students should bring a note from home to this effect and the late slip will not be issued if we consider the reason to be acceptable. We understand it can be difficult to make medical or dental appointments and that some appointments may take all day, although we would ask you to avoid appointments during the school day wherever possible. Therefore, lateness due to these appointments must be evidenced with a note, letter, or appointment card from the surgery. These will then be recorded as authorised absences. We suggest making these appointments late afternoon if possible. Parents/carers will continue to receive an email via Intouch informing them if students are late to school. The Parent Portal is also a useful tool to monitor punctuality. We close our registers at 9.20 am and if a student arrives after this time this is marked as an unauthorised absence (U code). If the student is late after the close of registers more than six times parents/carers could be liable to receive a Penalty Notice. Thank you in advance for your support. Panathlon Team Congratulations to the Panathlon team for another excellent performance. Croydon achieved Gold in every event, winning overall and gaining a place in the next round at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre in March. Gold in Table Cricket – Megan Hierons 9AMM, Michael Hoad 8CMT, Meghna Vikram 8NPG, Ellie Bowen 8TRH, Scarlett Hewitt 7MRS and Erin O’Flaherty 7MRS. Gold in Polybat – Megan Hierons, Ellis Weekes and Jaimeson Kenny 8TRH. Gold in Precision Beanbag – Ellis Weekes. Gold in Relays – Megan Hierons, Scarlett Hewitt, Michael Hoad, Jaimeson Kenny. A great team effort and some fantastic individual performances. Well done to all! Excellence in Sport I am looking to update our registers for students who are currently competing at County level or above in Sport.
