Jack Whitehall is a comedian of wit and
FRANKENSTEIN
FRANKENSTEIN
The doctor will
see you now
Dr Victoria Frankenstein, aka actor Polly Frame, offers an insight into life
with her creature on their current stay in Newcastle
How are you enjoying life in
Newcastle? My experiments
take up quite a lot of my time,
including my study of the
chemistry of gin at Bealim House.
The livestock on the Town Moor
may also yet feature in my work.
What do you think of the
shopping in the city centre?
We both enjoy designer clothes,
though this can be challenging
for the Creature who, at 8ft
tall and on the, um, broad side,
struggles to find things to fit,
which is a shame, as he fancies
himself a bit of a Tom Ford. We
also nip down to the ironmongers
on a Saturday morning to get the
Creature’s bolts tightened. He
considers this a vital part of his
grooming routine.
If we were meeting in the pub,
how would I recognise you? I’d
be the one demonstrating how
to distil G&T into pure ethanol.
The Creature (I don’t call him the
monster because he’s actually a
soft-hearted sweetie pie, despite
his recently revealed pathological
drive to murder me) likes a Bloody
Mary at The Bacchus, though for
some reason he struggles to find
drinking partners.
How else do you spend your
time? We love a game of Scrabble
in the evening, we’re planning to
go to The Great North Museum:
Hancock for its new skeleton
show, and we’ve enjoyed some
classes at Dance City – Tango
mainly. We hope to get a call from
Strictly Come Dancing, though
the Creature is a bit more Ed Balls
than Anton du Beke.
What’s on the menu in your flat?
The Creature’s tastes are pretty
simple – mainly raw meat, blood,
brains and bones, which he likes
to suck. As mentioned earlier, the
Town Moor is an area of interest
for us.
Where do you go on holiday?
I love a lakeshore retreat. In
Venezuela, where the Catatumbo
River meets Lake Maracaibo,
there are some 250-plus storms
a year, each featuring around
nine hours at a time of lightning,
which I particularly like. You
can get a similar effect in some
nightclubs, though the Creature
struggles to find dance partners…
Polly stars in Northern Stage’s production of Dr Frankenstein adapted by Selma Dimitrijevic, directed by Lorne
Campbell and designed by Tom Piper MBE, creator of the Poppies: Weeping Window installation at the Tower of
London.
KING ROSS
THE KING
SPEAKS...
What do you mean ‘King who?’ To millions of people around the world,
he’s an internet phenomenon, the face of Newcastle-based global sports
promoter WhatCulture Pro Wrestling and a sacred soul of that very strange
world they call YouTube. Here’s what he told us...
Wow, you’re the biggest thing
in wrestling. Ever. Where can we
commune with your followers? In
their bedrooms locked away from
the world because they are dirty
marks and bring shame to society
as a whole.
Eh? What’s a ‘dirty mark’? Are
you referring to your laundry? A
‘mark’ is a wrestling fan, and having
seen some of the specimens who
come through the doors at our
events, locking them away is the
best thing for all concerned.
Oh right. So what about you - can
you give us three WWE wrestlers
you’d snog, marry, and avoid?
Rusev, Kevin Owens and JBL.
Wow, there’s a window into
your soul right there! We note
that you’re the reigning WCPW
Commentator of the Year. Why?
Simple - I’m awful at commentary,
but those dirty, sweaty marks have
mountains of unconditional love
for me and my preachings.
That’s cool. Your fans must really
inspire you? No, I just like money.
Lots of money. I also like insulting
dirty marks and feasting on their
souls, but they enjoy all of that.
You can’t blame them, you’ve
come such a long way. Come
to think of it, what was it like
when WhatCulture Pro Wrestling
started? At first I scoffed at the
idea, thinking we’d be putting on
Jack the Jobber in Spandex against
Blampied and his textbook Suplex,
but then I remembered that we’re
WhatCulture and we’ve got millions
of followers, so I got excited. We’ve
come a long way from the days
of 10 people cramming into a
warehouse and to this day it’s still a
bit of an acid trip.
Wow, you are the king! WCPW is
back in Newcastle on March 6.
What can we expect? Professional
wrestling by professional wrestlers
inside a professional wrestling ring
with professional wrestling referees
in front of professional wrestling
marks screaming professional
wrestling chants. Don’t expect me
to be there though. I’m doing my
hair that night.
And when your hair is done, which
wrestlers will you invite round
for protein-packed muscle meal?
Great question! There’d be Kevin
Owens, because he’s my favourite
wrestler, and I’d want Martin Kirby
there because he’s my best friend
and my favourite wrestler who
isn’t Kevin Owens. It’s time I had
him round because I go round to
his most Sundays, when we close
the curtains, stick some candles
on and sing ‘I Got You Babe’ to one
another. There’s actually video
evidence of this on the WCPW
YouTube page. And my third guest
would be Rusev, because he is my
bae and spirit animal, naturally.
And who would you take for a
night out in the Bigg Market?
WWE’s billionaire chairman Vinnie
Mac. A night out with him can last
for days.
