Sword, White & Sons, London<br />

the sword having straight blade with acid etched<br />

decoration three quarters the length of the blade, makers<br />

mark on blade, gilt metal bead decorated hilt, gold braid<br />

tassel, leather and gilt metal scabbard, with cloth cover,<br />

together with ceremonial black dress jacket, with gilt<br />

leaf braided cuffs, neck collar and gilt armorial buttons,<br />

together with plumed hat (3), length of blade: 81.5cm; total<br />

length: 96cm approx<br />

490. Ceremonial funeral details and route maps<br />

of the State Funeral of the Late Sir Winston<br />

Leonard Spencer Churchill K.G., O.M., C.H. on the<br />

30th January 1965<br />

‘Operation Hope Not’ was the code name given to<br />

Churchill’s funeral which had been planned for some years<br />

prior to his death on the 24th of January 1965, it was the<br />

first state funeral given to a civilian, these documents<br />

enclosed in a folder in an envelope titled ‘Her Majesty’s<br />

Service’ are dated 26th January 1965, Commissioner’s<br />

Office. The documents detailing the Movements of<br />

Military and Civilian Organisations for the funeral parade,<br />

organised Special District Orders by Major-General<br />

E.J.B. Nelson, General Officer Commanding London<br />

District and Major-General Commanding The Household<br />

Brigade, Headquarters, London District, Horse Guards,<br />

Whitehall, S.W.1. Folder contains parts I to XIV, listing<br />

instructions, procession, street lining, minute guns,<br />

ceremonial orders, private joinery from London to Bladon,<br />

orders of conferences and rehearsals and Maps.<br />

Originally owned by the father of the vendor, who was a<br />

part of the B2 team of Scotland Yard in 1965, who was<br />

part of the team who planned and researched the route of<br />

the funeral. It was given to the vendor for an anniversary<br />

present<br />

of rectangular form, with blue enamel background, white<br />

lettering ‘Rowntree’s Chocolates and Pastilles’, Maker’s<br />

to T.M. The King & Queen, each corner with the Royal<br />

Warrant crest, length 183.5cm x 45.2cm<br />
