River Valley Players bring<br />
“Sister Act” to the stage<br />
You have been invited to have a<br />
rip-roaring good time with great<br />
music and lots of laughs with,<br />
believe or not, a bunch of nuns. Well,<br />
actors on stage who are playing nuns.<br />
The River Valley Players of Rock Rapids<br />
are bringing a fun, new musical to<br />
the stage on Friday-Sunday, Feb, 24-16.<br />
“Sister Act,” the musical, will be staged<br />
by the troupe <strong>for</strong> the first time.<br />
The River Valley Players have been<br />
putting on shows <strong>for</strong> live music lovers<br />
<strong>for</strong> at least 30 years, said Krahling.<br />
“I did my first show as a high school<br />
senior in 1979, and I know they had<br />
been doing shows <strong>for</strong> at least five<br />
years be<strong>for</strong>e that,” Krahling said. “I<br />
don’t remember the role, but the<br />
show was a really campy melodrama.”<br />
For the past several years, the River<br />
Valley Players have been doing two<br />
shows a year with a dinner theatre show<br />
in the fall and a musical each winter.<br />
The troupe can’t wait to bring this<br />
new musical to the region.<br />
The musical, “Sister Act” is based on<br />
the popular comedic 1992 movie starring<br />
Whoopi Goldberg, but it won’t<br />
be exactly the same.<br />
“It’s different than the movie in<br />
terms of the music,” Krahling said.<br />
“It’s the same basic story line but the<br />
music in it will be a surprise.”<br />
The story follows Deloris Van Cartier,<br />
a nightclub singer, who has dreams<br />
of stardom and a life far different than<br />
the one she is currently leading. When<br />
she decides to break up with club<br />
owners and current boyfriend Curtis<br />
Shank, she witnesses a murder.<br />
After confessing what she witnessed,<br />
she is put into protective custody<br />
in a convent<br />
The cast <strong>for</strong> “Sister Act” is comprised<br />
of 24 people. Some of the cast<br />
are veterans in the River Valley Players<br />
and others are new to the group.<br />

That’s always a cool thing to watch<br />
the actors get the love from their audience,”<br />
Krahling said. “It’s a pretty<br />
neat story that will touch people in<br />
some interesting ways. Plus, on pure<br />
entertainment value alone, this show<br />
