BUILDING RESILIENCY IN ADOPTIVE FAMILIES to prepare for the future Finalization is just the beginning When families go through the adoption process, it’s easy to envision the final paperwork and pictures at the courthouse as the end of their journey. But any family who has adopted will tell you that just isn’t the case. Not exactly new, but long overdue AASK, a partnership of PATH and Catholic Charities North Dakota, was contracted by the state of North Dakota to give formal, focused attention to families who’ve adopted or are providing guardianship. The ND Post-Adopt Network was organized to be available and to find answers through all of the ups and downs that come with a child joining a permanent family. And we mean every family All adoptive families in ND have this service available at no cost. This includes adoptions: • through foster care (AASK) • international • domestic • infant • or guardianships Total Number of finalized adoptions : 157 144 kids in the active adoption process Number of kids waiting to become active: 351 85 Adoptive Home Assessments completed Number of homes in the assessment process: 106 50 families waiting to start an assessment Number of kids whose parents have had their parental rights terminated, but have no identified adoptive family: 30 ND statewide
ND Post-Adopt Network offers: • Training for families • Connections to other families through support groups and mentorship • Links to local services and resources through experienced staff • Online connection to other families and resources • Summer camp for families and children Minot Grand Forks Dickinson Bismarck Fargo Support groups across ND Preparation before intervention Before ND Post-Adopt Network started, families often waited for support until it was too late. Now, families have access to all services from the start. Besides the services listed, private consultation with staff is an option to offer help, answer questions, or just be a listening ear.
